CTS Hobbsmith

The ancestral home of the Mulholland Dynasty, and jewel of their Angeles Life Systems logistics fleet, the Hobbsmith has rough past of conflict and the unique genius it produces. Or at least, it used to. Not since Neptune's takeover has the ship produced a stellar scientist, soldier, or businessman. Not of the caliber it used to in the Pirate Years...   What was once the scourge of Bellum*, is now an amenable and stable, if bland, corporate monarchy.

Demographics

While not as diverse as the Fabriker, the Hob has a strong immigrant (and vagrant) culture from its Pirate Years. Its population is majority Kiluru, but it has a large Concordian population in the hull as well. Mostly living outside the hull, however, is the ship's considerable Ursa population, taking advantage of their species' affinity for the open vacuum. While most merely hibernate strapped to the outer hull, saving water and oxygen, the awoken must live inside a small Ursa district within the hull.

Government

It is said that the Six Dynasties each have their fiefs. With their oligarchic control of the Hob, the Mulholland Fief is a bit more literal. The civil government of the Hob, created after the Pirate Years, had Neptune Mulholland as a founding member. And through a process that would be called blatant corruption in any other time and place, Mulholland consolidated power around him and his family's allies, changing the supposedly republican government of the ship into an oligarchy.    Had the Concordance not just spent billions on invading the ship, this would surely not stand. Surely, the vile Mulhollands would be replaced by a more democratic government. Surely. But the Cocnordance did spend billions, and in the first sign of weakness since the Cardinal War, the Cocnordance was unwilling to do it again. Ever since, the Hob has been run as the Dynasty's personal kingdom.

Defences

Just like any other Tohoro-class, the Hob relies on its own civil defense grid. But as the flagship of the Mulhollands, it also benefits from the greatest security that the Sundow Group can provide. This includes Mulholland's own private security company, the Lippincott security firm. Lippincott's ~40 active corvettes are split between their headquarters in orbit of Erebo, the Hob's own hangers, and the docks of the CTS vessels one transit before and after the Hob.

History

One of the 7th generation Tahoro liners built in the 790s, at the height of the Concordance's power, the Hobbsmith was once considered the jewel of the CTS fleet. For 2 decades, it maintained that reputation, even contesting the 2nd gen Debardeur's efficiency. This lasted until the Great Austerity of 823. As a measure to raise funds and pay off the debts of the Cardinal War, the Hobbsmith was the first Tahoro liner to be privatized in 5 generations. In the disaster that ensued, the Concordance realized that auctioning off CTS vessels wasted far more money than it made.   As the Concordance relinquished all control, the ship found itself carved up in a market free-for-all. Even more than the 1st gen Fabriker, the Hob found its every aspect reduced to rent extraction and profit incentive. This disaster escalated until the ship became near-inhabitable. From 825 to 846, the ship sat inert in a far orbit of Bellum*, becoming a battleground and pirate haven. After 21 years of defunct civil war, and Bellum*'s defense fleet threatening to expose its insides to vacuum, the Concordat Navy finally stepped in and reoccupied the Hob. With a Concordance liaison aboard, the ship was handed over to an internal civil authority. The Hob's civil authority included the future-tycoon Neptune Mulholland, and his success is partially attributed him co-opting the Hob for his own logistics empire.   Ever since Mulholland's takeover in 846, the ship has been one of the best in the fleet. While it no longer threatens the Bard's supremacy, it is considered one of the better liners to travel on, if not to work on. As much as people suffered during the Pirate Years, the multi-racial denizens of the Hob were known for their unique genius and creative thinking. Neptune Mulholland was the last great mind to emerge from the ship's bowels.
