The Broken, The Bound

The endless void of space is no more devoid of thing, of mystery, and of life than the endless ocean before a ship. Wizards, Warlocks, Pathfinder, and Voyagers roam the stars striking deals with favorable spirits and hunting down the untamable furies that dwell within the elements of our galaxy in a quest to stake their claim against the great unknown.   A story of both science fiction and fantasy The Broken & The Bound seeks to tell the tale of the partnership between mystic traditions, men of science, and the innate urge to explore and overcome that dwells within us all.   Massive ships that take creatures of all races to the far corners of known space and help them push the boundaries of the map are powered by the bound spirits and elemental aspects of locations. Entwined by the will of powerful sorcerers, elemental furies supply their energy to a ship's systems and they, in turn, protect it from the hungry void that engulfs them. Certain planets and certain places exist as esteemed hunting grounds for aspiring travelers to hunt so that they can secure their travel through the stars and be assured of a degree of comfort. But space itself is not an inviting place for either science or metaphysics.   Despite the far-reaching and oddly comforting order of things there are still forces out there that are both alien and dangerous to us and our safety. Unknowable motivations and a calloused disregard for the value of other lives, eternal energies guide the void in strange ways and wash away at the fringes of our sanity like the waves against a shore. To some, such forces represent an obstacle to be challenged and overcome. To others, these forces represent a the limitations of what we were meant to know, meant to control, and a grim reminder of our place within the grand design.   Where do your limitations lie?
