The Broken Stream

Eight thousand years. For eight thousand fucking years we've had instant communication and near instant travel across the galaxy. Now that's all gone to hell. The Stream has dried up. For good, this time. Christ, when it briefly went down ten years ago everyone damn near lost their fucking minds. Quintillions of SMU lost in about over the course of five minutes.    This is different though. The Ryzalam are dead. All of them. Their planet was hit with a Dmitrievich Burrower; it was was gone within minutes. As you can expect, there were't any survivors. There's a reason those damned things are outlawed everywhere in the galaxy.   At any rate, this is the reality we're stuck with now. We'll be lucky if they can get the ansibles up and running again. Scientists are going to have to relearn how to craft faster-than-light drives all over again. It's going to be a shit show.
