The Broken Realms

Created by

Welcome to the Broken Realms. Once the 9 Realms sung and spoken about in the Edda, now its a broken and jagged place, where no Aesir yet lives but one, and where Ragnarok has has swept through and forever realigned and reshaped what the realms once was.   Where once there were some semblence order between the nine realms of Asgard, Alfheim, Niflerheim, Jotunheim, Midgard, Muspelheim, Nidavellir/Svartalfheim and Vanaheim, there is now nothing but chaos. Places once splendid are now barren and scorched from Sutres fires, and places once thriving with life are now plains of strange grey grass end endless storms.   Where Jutunheim once was, there is only Hunheim, a world wrapped in perpetual twilight and shadow. Húmheim stands as the first and most likely, only stop for lost souls. A vast realm, it has no end of pitfalls and dangers for the newly departed. For death is not the end, not at all.   This sprawling realm of death is the remains of several other realms, lost to Ragnarok in ages past. and ruins when the proud and arrogant Aesir fought their hated enemies of Giantkind. Their bones litter the ground, giants corpses having become mountains, and the god blood have become rivers.   This new realm of death is far from inviting and spare little thought to its new arrivals. From the massive Forest of Lost Valor, where dead warriors roam in desperate search of a way to Valhalla, to the Grey Fields where violent storms rage and Storm Shades make their home.   There is Jotunberg, where the last of Giant kind sits vigilant, ruled by the Red King, Femir. Ever distrustful of the rest, forever bitter about how thier victory did not afford them a seat in Asgard, the realm of Aesir. A realm that is now closed off by Hel, The daughter of Loki and Goddess of Death.   And what of Asgard you ask? The realm of Aesir. Of gods. The answer is that nobody knows as it's shrouded in impenetrable fog and guarded jealously by Hel, who has grown to be the most powerful being in all of the realms after the deaths of the Aesir. She and her Draugur watch the gates and collect the souls of the dead, while keeping all else out of the once resplendent realms of gods.   Vanaheim still stands, spared he madness of "The last war". But its gods want nothing to do with other realms, having lost their beloved Freyr. Instead, the Vanir waste away in sorrow and melancholy, watching with scornful eyes as the world fall into a ever growing state chaos.   Niflerheim has not only remained, but it has grown and expanded with the death of the Aesir, now directly bordering to Midgard; the realm of mortals.
