The Beginning - Session 1

General Summary

The party of Wake, Bar’El’Zar, Linley, Tinkerbell and Fey (All of these spellings are probably fucked up) were in the harbor town of Briggs Harbor preparing to travel to Grimgarr when it was attacked by a horde of gnolls, each of them bearing a strange green mark seemingly painted on their head.   During the chaos, Wake witnessed the ships in harbor be set on fire and begin to burn rather quickly. In the night a group of ships landing in the harbor and unloading the gnolls who began to raze the town and another large figure was witnessed stepping off the boat, a minotaur.   Bar’El’Zar joined up with a small group of Guards protecting two nobles, the Lady Scarlet and Lady Amelia, the daughter of the Briggs Harbor Lord. The group was struck by a large explosion and Lady Amelia was seen floating in the air, an old hunched woman seemingly pulling her away with magic as she made her way towards the manor.   Linley, after spending time with a sick child she was trying to take care of, noticed two wagons attemping to escape the town during the chaos. The dwarven merchant Ridlock was trying to load his wagon with cargo and Linley assisted, helping him and his two workers escape the town. During this she witnessed the second wagon be knocked over and destroyed by a humanoid figure in black armor, who the gnolls seemed to not attack.   Tinkerbell, also trying to cure the sick child, stepped outside to witness two individuals in need. A wounded boy who Tinkerbell sent Dr. Boom-Boom to go and assist with a healing potion while Tinkerbell herself went into a burning alchemist shop and helped save an elderly halfling women whose husband, who was outside, was killed.   Fey, spending time in an inn and speaking to his various contacts, witnessed the various survivors of the town fleeing. While following them several people attempted to hold a door closed in order to stop the oncoming enemies but Fey witnessed them be beaten back by the large figure stepping through.   In the forest about an hour outside of town the party met up with several survivors including:
  • Elana, the older female halfling alchemist.
  • Ridlock, the Dwarven Merchant of the Onyx Wheel Trading Company
  • Two as of yet unknown human workers for Ridlock.
  • Lady Scarlet, a noble lady.
  • Two unknown hurt guards.
  • After talking with the survivors, including Ridlock who pushed the party to go and leave this place and offered them payment in exchange for an escort to Densford and Lady Scarlet who begged the party to head back into Briggs Harbor to save Lady Amelia, the party decided to head back to Briggs Harbor for various reasons.   As dawn was approaching the party headed towards the town but instead of entering through the main entrance, Wake and Fey led the party to a smugglers route that went from outside the town and to the harbor. This route took the party through the sewers though where they became otherwise covered in slime and other vile liquids.   While traveling through the sewers the party came across a strange humanoid collapsed in the tunnels. Tinkerbell, who was in the lead, identified that the female figure was not breathing and did not have a false but when Fey stabbed the figure they seemed to convulse for a moment before going still. When Linley examined the body she found that it had a previous mortal would that would have pierced the lung. The party observed several other strange things about the body.
  • A brooch to the Jiese, The Divine Guide, one of the Gods in the Cathedral of Light
  • The face of the figure was weirdly pale but has not been closely examined in the light
  • When holy water is placed on the figure it seems to glow briefly and then be absorbed, Linley thinks this may be related to some divine connection since some apostles to Gods can subsist on holy water.
  • When a healing potion as applied the wounds released blood and the female figure seemed to move before going still again.
  • The blood released was a strange consistency, it also was darker than you would expect.
  • The wounds seemed to have something green or blue inside but have not been closely examined.
  • The figure is lighter than they should be considering their size.
  • Due to all of these strange things, Linley decided to carry the body as the party made their way through the town. Once in the town the party started to make their way through the harbor towards the back of the Lords manor. On the way the party watched as several ships, seemingly made from various bits and pieces of other things, were sailing away from the harbor while a small one remained.   As the party traveled through the harbor the party witnessed the devastation. No buildings were spared from the fires and destruction, a number of skeletons remain on the ground surrounded by blood. Bar’El’Zar knows that Gnolls are known for devouring everything and these are most likely the victims of their hunger. The party also observed strange behavior by the gnolls, however.   The gnolls were going through the various buildings and pulling seemingly random things out, including a table, pillows, a stuffed animal, plates and a rug. As the party tried to investigate the lack of a common language between the gnolls and the party become a problem. Wake, using his magics, disguised himself as a gnoll and began to get close to them. Wake found a cart where the gnolls were placing their collected objects but began to arouse suspicion. Tinkerbell, going off to the side, distracted the gnolls by singing a loud song about how much of a feast she was, attracting the attention of seven gnolls and a gnoll that appeared to be the leader of some sort.   All hell broke out as the party crippled the leader gnoll with a surprise arrow from Fey that sunk into the beasts eyeball before it was decapitated by Bar’El’Zar. After this however the various gnolls swarmed Linley and Bar’El’Zar who were only saved by the support of Fey and Wake attacking the creatures form a distance while Tinkerbell quickly moved Dr. Boom-Boom in position to keep both of them standing. After a moment, the party looted the bodies and took a break to recover.   During the break, Fey found a moontouched +1 elven shortsword of fine make. The guard seemed to be an eagle with wings outstretched and the blade had a flock of birds engraved upon it, however the marks on the blade demonstrated that it had been used regularly. A scroll of shatter was also found on one of the gnolls. Tinkerbell and Wake made a discovery of their own, a pair of children trapped in a basement but luckily alive. Tinkerbell and Wake managed to get them out, with Tinkerbell showing a great deal of strength for her small stature, and found that while they were dehydrated and unconscious they would otherwise be fine. The party also decided to take a cart with them as they began their journey again.   Once at the back of the manor the party scaled the terraced hill, with Fey and Tinkerbell having an easy time while the others had a less easy time. Once up top Linley left the two children near a large Elm tree with a note pinned to their chest saying that they should stay their and quiet, that their rescuers would return for them. At this point the party approached the back entrance to the manor, already noticing several gnolls leaving and entering the manor grounds and patrolling the various walls.

    Notes

Bar'El'Zar also noted that the location known as Valen's Rest has been overrun with strange insect-like creatures.
