Maelstrom or the World Veil.

The maelstrom is the name for the large storming wall of deep bright that bisects the world. It prevented global travel and exploration. Many nations and peoples have tried and failed to pass beyond its bounds, drawn by the alluring mysteries it hides behind its curtain of energies. There have been many attempts to surpass it and or pierce its form. All attempts to conquer it has failed. This has to do with the fact that the energies that make it up comes directly from the cradle tearing through the world pattern/the prime weave. Consistently flooding energies into the world. To stop it would be like stopping the turning of the world its self. 
The energies that make up the maelstrom are constantly storming and active. Bright Fall storms commonly arise from the maelstrom. And realms converge and change its energies marking the changing of the seasons and months. Though most of the storms and energies spawning from the maelstrom are kept at bay from the civilized lands by Axflodous Spike's.

The maelstrom covers a whole continent shading it from the eyes of the world and preventing most attempts to habitat its shores and grounds. Do to the impossibility of exploration its unknown what the terrain is like. Though likely broken barren lands covered by mutated and aberrant life.
