The Blackfens

In the north of Broerec, the division between land and sea is hard to define, the ocean and rivers joining in a vast wetland known as the Blackfens.
The Blackfens tend to be marsh, rather than swamp - that is, most of the landscape is a treeless maze of open water, reeds, and wet, grassy flats that shelter countless waterfowl.
Isolated hummocks or islets in the marsh are covered with dense brush or forest. The Blackfens are a haven (if a dangerous one) for criminals and home to strange, ungodly creatures.

The quickest route on foot between Kernev and southern Broerec is through the Blackfens. If one absolutely must take this course, movement will always be halved.
