The Divine Lyre

"I've heard that Sargos' lyre has five notes; love, restlessness, triumph, despair and agony. Give me only the second, it's all I need."
— Ilia the Bird
In some myths of the sun god Sargos, the Divine Lyre is one of his recognizable symbols. Though principally a warrior god, he is also a patron of artists, musicians and poets. This connection and patronage is represented with the image of the Lyre, though it can also signify one theological interpretation which states that it is the instrument that Sargos with which constructs destiny itself. More broadly, it represents the ever-changing rhythm of life and the many different experiences contained therein.

Apperance

In most incarnations, Sargos' lyre is gold in color. The arms which hold its strings are sometimes decorated with leaves of the Sungold Tree. Depictions of Sargos do not always place him with his lyre, however. In fact, it is somewhat rare. If he is presented with it, it is typically held by its base in his left hand whilst his right clasps his sword.

Significance

The Divine Lyre is, at its core, a poetic symbol. Though the Cult of Sargos does recognize it officially as being associated with their god in various mythological texts such as the Book of the Sun, they do not ascribe to it any particularly powers. Conversely, certain groups within Thripia, especially in artistic circles, believe that the Divine Lyre the ultimate representation of life and its complexities; it is the role of music to evoke many emotions and the same is true of destiny and Sargos' wielding of it. There is much deliberation about what exactly the strings of the Divine Lyre represent. In some myths there are five, in others seven and some as little as three. Many describe the strings as representing emotions, some say they are events and more still suggest that there can be no way of knowing for, if any did, they would be able to control destiny just as Sargos does.
