Kymra

Based off of demons, bats, and snakes, these majestic people are commonly mistaken by people for vampires. They are not vampires. They do not drink blood. They eat meat mostly, yes, but they do not drink blood. That's just asking for clichés.   Unlike your typical demons, Kymra are not very evil. Really. They're not. They're explorers, with a deep sense of wanderlust. They're daredevils who live high up in trees just because they can. They are not, however, evil. The only slightly sinister thing about them is that they might eat you if you don't say "I'M SAPIENT" but that's about it. They're very nice and chatter-y and the life of the party most of the time. They're also very handy for if you need to get from one dimension to another and you don't live near the Hub.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kymra are very short and stocky with lots of muscles because you need them if you're a daredevil, adventure-seeking people like them. They have scaly skin, eyes with scleras, big black bat wings and ears, and a long tail. Their bones are hollow like birds so they can fly easier, but they're also quite fragile and prone to breakage. They horns that are very sharp and probably chipped due to accidental collisions with ceilings. Kymra's eyes tend to be either orange, grey, green, or red-pink, and their hair tends to be a tangle of brown, black, or green curls.

Ecology and Habitats

Kymra do very well in large dark caves or big forests with lots of large trees. They can live in other places, but they likely won't be able to see as well.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kymra primarily eat meat, though sometimes they require things only plants can give them. Not often though. Kymra hunt a lot like bats do, by listening for the sounds of their prey (anything from small forest animals to humans). Then they stalk it, a bit like a cheetah. Then, when they're ready, they pounce down from the trees or dive down from the skies, tackle their food, kill it using a weapon of some sort usually, and then bring it back home to eat.   Kymra have a very weird reaction to caffeine. For most Kymra it causes them to get way more energetic and frenetic than normal and they are a literal ball of kinetic energy for days afterward. Do not give Kymra caffeine unless they are ADHD, otherwise you will have an energy demon on your hands.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Kymra are used primarily for transportation. People of all speicies use them as a way to get from one dimension to another, and even though the poor Kymra hate being a taxi service for inter-dimensional hitchhikers, they do it anyway because then people get snippy.

Facial characteristics

Kymra have very spread apart facial features with lighter scales around their eyes, which are very large. They typically have humanish noses, but their eyes are kind of like snakes in that they have scleras.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kymra have a very accute sense of smell and hearing, but not so good when it comes to eye-sight. Their vision sucks. They have to use echolocation most of the time unless it's dark out or they're flying in the void. Kymra are also capable of tearing holes between dimensions and stitching them back together again.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Elves: Why aren't they seen as vampires, they look more like them-- *ahem*. They are very nice and very helpful in assuring us that the dead reached K'mentar (Kymran afterlife) alright. They keep offering us coffee though? Why? Devore: THEY HAVE PRETTY STORIES AND COOL HAIR AND THEY'RE REALLY NICE WE LIKE THEM Draconi: Ickkkkkk why? They're like fake knock-offs of us with extra powers. We don't really like them. Astraforia & Synth: IF THEY COME IN WITH THEIR WAR AND DESTROY OUR TREE VILLAGES AGAIN, I SWEAR--- Fae: They're shady. Hmm. Ah well, not much we can do about that.

Kymra scales come in a variety of colours, from reddish purple, to grey, to dark green, to deep blue. It honestly depends on where the Kymra came from. Kymra not from the Kymran home-dimension, K'mer, will usually have green or blue scales. Kymra from K'mer are usually reddish-purple or grey, though they can be green or blue in some rare cases.
