Asilimtu (Asi-Lim-Too)

Asilimtu is a large continent on the planet Celea known for its sprawling deserts, jungles, and savannahs. Located in the southern hemisphere, it is mostly spared from the planet's harsh winters and has thus hosted some of the largest and most populous nations in Celean history.

History

Much of the continent's early history was dominated by two states: The Kingdom of Khenammit in the north and northeast and the Axian Empire in the south. Smaller, less united cultures, like the Acherib in the west and the Sarenrasi in the east, served as buffers. During the Day of Dragons, both Khenammit and Axia suffered greatly after ignoring warnings from the Wind Dragons and trusting in their gods to protect them. Sarenrasi avoided this fate thanks to the Wind Dragons' help and rose to rule much of Eastern Asilimtu, albeit without the same degree of unity and centralization that Khenammit had once managed.   Khenammit and Axia would eventually begin to recover from the cataclysm. However, they soon discovered that the small nations that once posed no threat to them had grown to become serious opponents. Axia would eventually fall to infighting and famine after centuries of rule, though Khenammit managed to withstand these difficult decades and survive into the new era. Khenammit's newest enemies was the equestrian Acherib Kingdom and the skilled Sarenrasi warriors, who resisted all Khenammen attempts to expand the empire. Khenammit instead turned its attention north, to Tamaqirs, where they conquered the island and began to dominate trade between the east and west. Tamaqirs, however, proved difficult to rule, especially the unruly capital city of Daggerpoint, and Khenammit faced such military and economic difficulties in controlling the island that their ownership of it soon provided nothing but hollow prestige.   The Kingdom of Khenammit, weakened by centuries of discourse, would collapse in the 11th century after an invasion by the Phoenix Empire. After the empire's gradual withdrawal following the Imperial Reformation, several independent Khenammen states rose up to fill the power vacuum. These fractured remnants were invaded by the rising Muqaladhi Empire in the 12th century and would remain under Muqaladhi control after the Khenammen Sultanate left the empire in the 13th century. The region was united once more under the Khenammen Empire after the sultanate's fall.   Centuries later, in the early-1800s, the Axian Empire reunified to combat increasing Ashen influence over Asilimtu. However, they decided against supporting Khenammit in their battles with the Fleurian Empire, still not trusting their ancient enemy. As a result of the damage sustained in the war with Fleuria and discontent with the pharaohs after millennia of autocratic rule, the empire became ineffective and sluggish, remaining in a state of general disarray until the beginning of the Great War in 1878. Khenammit was quickly occupied by the Weivolk Empire in the 1880s, and became a battleground for the Imperial Coalition and the Entente. Near the war's end, socialist revolutionaries overthrew the occupation government and turned on their fellow monarchist rebels, creating the Khenammen People's Republic.   Starting in the 1960s, the KPR entered a civil war between socialists and fascists. This conflict, like others fought during the Cold War, quickly escalated into a proxy war between the Free Nations Strategic Alliance and the Kärsi Treaty Organization. The fighting would spill over into neighboring countries and continue until the 90s, when the Seven Month War ended the Cold War with an FNSA victory, signaling an end to large-scale conflicts in the Celen System for over 300 years.
