Session 18: And The Scorpion Said...

General Summary

"That's a good angle for you." - Olechka
The party met Scorpion, a charming man who offered to lead the party through the dungeon beneath the Cornucopia. Tentatively, you placed some of your trust in him and his bright white grin, and descended into a damp tunnel 50ft underground. Lestie received a impaling spike through the abdomen, and Morres detected some poisoned arrow traps. You reached the door and were shown into a room 50ft tall, full to the ceiling of gold and valuables, and guarded by a small sleeping dragon.   You crept past the dragon in three rooms. In the first room, those who had not eaten anything in Anosok saw a portal, and those who had eaten found nothing more than a janitor’s closet. In the second room, you found Dr Cleora and Bunty, unconscious but breathing, as well as an assortment of treasures. In the final room, you found Dusty Byron, being pampered in Mordeo’s kitchen. Lestie confronted him for deserting them and Kips, but Dusty merely dismissed her, showing for once his true colours. Perhaps he should’ve considered his response a little more, before Lestie was given the chance to brutally behead her father.   In the kitchen, Varis found the poisoned apple – the forbidden fruit that Mordeo must eat in order to return to the overworld. As you all prepared to take the fruit back up to Mordeo, Scorpion told you the story of the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion, in the story, cannot help but hurt others, even to their own detriment. In a moment of horrifying clarity, you all watched as Scorpion revealed himself to be Psyche, Mordeo’s aide-de-camp, and a power-hungry succubus.   You fought Psyche, who used her powers to exert control over Marcus and then Lestie, making them hurt their friends. You also involved the dragon, Ruska, in the fight, who showed that she could pack a punch.   Eventually Harket fell, losing consciousness on the cold flagstones, his blood running between the cobbles, and familiar fungus and seaweed growing all over him, forming a sort of burial midden around him.   Psyche was also defeated, if temporarily, by Olechka, in a rage after losing her fish-son. Subsequently, her soul, searching for a vessel, decided to inhabit Morres’ necklace.
