The Age of Clockwork

117 years after the Great War and Sunland is just now slowly regaining the ability to use certain forms of technology. After the EMP that ended the war was launched into our orbit, the world was completely devoid of technology of any kind. The City of Time, a busy metropolis based in Old Chicago, seems to be the the only settlement in Sunland with access to today's technology. The monochrome city is run by a corrupt intelligence that controls all trade, military power, and electricity, giving them almost complete control over the entirety of Sunland. The Great War was 14 years of what seemed like endless bloodshed and cruelty. What started as a few minor skirmish for land borders, soon spiraled into a complete disregard of authority and morals. After almost a decade of ruthless warring between the nations of the world, supplies started to run out, forcing military powers to get creative with their food and weapons. Almost as if it were centuries before, troops were forced to eat whatever they could find or steal and use whatever they could find around as weapons. Finally after the air turned to smog and the water to oil, nation leaders of the world came together and decided to combine their remaining supplies to build a EMP that would prevent communication and transport to the rest of the world. Only certain settlements now have access to varying forms of technology. For example Slater's Hill can only use machines from the industrial revolution, making the whole settlement a mesh of grass huts and gears. Some coastal settlements have water-powered machines that feed from the ocean and streams surrounding it. The sudden come back of technology is due to a chink in the satellites functionality that causes certain parts of what was the U.S to be blocked from the grid, causing partial running electricity. One of the many conflicts within Sunland is the lack of power the surrounding villages have compared to The City of Time. The capital city controls everything from trade and weapons to the crime rate within the region. This has caused the citizens of Sunland to stir and become restless of the constant oppression of their needs and ideas. This drives a sudden wave of controlled chaos to ensue, which of course causes great retaliation from The City of Time.
