Hontathan
If you've ever thought that the world would be a better place if people were more honest, you have never lived in Hontatha. A culture so fundamentally honest that they don't have a single metaphor. Now that doesn't mean people haven't found ways to be dishonest there. Like everywhere it has it's share of liars and cheats but compared to somewhere like Geldris, the amount of dishonesty in Hontatha is statistically negligible.
The reference to Geldris isn't a coincidence because much like Geldish, Hontathan is an offshoot of Verati, also known as celestial, one of the so-called Mystic languages.
Rumor has it that lying and deception in Verati are physically impossible.
Perhaps we are fortunate that this property is absent in the Hontathan of today. That being said we can readily see its influence in the lack of metaphors and the way the language encourages precise description.
Every exchange starts and ends with, respectively, a word that indicates how the speakers feels about the information conveyed and a word to communicate how they expect the listener to feel.
In addition, the language is built around adjectives. There is no direct equivalent to "An apple" or indeed "a".
The phrase "I'm going to the market to buy some apples" would instead be closer to "Tired, I will shortly go to the public market with the intention of buying the sweet green apples we will eat and cook with, Joyful"
As a byproduct of this accurate way of speaking, it takes a long time to communicate in Hontathan which has over time shaped a society that is slow, methodical, and patient.
The script is runic, each rune representing a core idea which, in combination, form more complex idea and is written from top to bottom and from left to right. However, the most interesting characteristic of this script is the fact that the runes look incomplete. A feeling they convey to all sentient mortals. A subtle sense that something is missing, just on the edge of awareness. The feeling passes with time and exposure but it was unusual enough for a group of research students in Araxis to attempt an experiment. A magical circuit was formed along the lines of the "light" rune and magic was channelled through it. They discovered a number of interesting properties before they lost their sight. The flow of magic can be made visible to the naked eye in the right conditions, the light produced was able to pass straight through solid object effectively allowing the students to see through the walls the around them and each other. Some even said later that they didn't just see through each other, they saw in each others souls. This last property has been difficult to reproduce as potential subject are reluctant to bear their souls to the world and those who are willing tend to make the rest of the research staff quite uncomfortable. Every year, teenage apprentices attempt to recreate the second property in order to see other students or members of the faculty in a state of undress. A spokesperson for the university has said "If these young people don't stop spending so much time thinking about people without clothes on, they'll all go blind"
