The Internationals

Stateless Soldiers

"From the Hills of South Ocrisia,   to the Dunes of Shatihab.   To the streets of Xinjing or Lodfjord,   or the Plains of Amarstan.   Wherever there's a foe to fight,   We'll be there fighting it!   With a tow-row-row-row-row-row-row,   To us Stateless Soldiers!
— An excerpt from "The International's Oath"

What They Are

The Corps of the Internationals is an "Administrative Corp" of the United Commonwealth Army, 15 Combat Arm Battalions large, along with its own semi-parallel administrative, training, and recuiting structures. It is made up entirely of individuals who are non-citizens of any member state of the United Commonwealth, but who still wish to serve in the U.C. Army.   These individuals

The History

The precise date that The Internationals came into being is a matter of not a little controversy, as different units have laid claim to that distinction over the years. Going from the official histories of the United Commonwealth Army, the entity known as "The Internationals" are said to have been founded in roughly their current form on 3/9/47 A.S., 5 years after the creation of the Army itself, at the height of "The Chainbreaker Campaigns". These Camapigns were the height of the United Commonwealth's "War on Slavery", and involved the alliance sending out thousands of troops to police foreign lands under their mandate to do all that is necessary to stop slavery.   At first, they were mere "Local Militias", raised under the Army as an independent unit from the native populace to augment it. Populated by a mixture of freed slaves fighting against their oppressors, and even a few free, common individuals, in it for Glory, Gold, or any of the other reasons people join up.   This orginal collection would be known as "The Freed Battalion", and the strength and sheer tenacity of the freed slaves, and the not much worse spirit of the rest of the unit, would see the unit a great many victories in the Campaigns against the slave trading Kingdom of Mashaba. With these successes and showcases of bravery, the idea of accepting individuals who are not citizens of a member nation of the United Commonwealth gained a great deal of support among the public and political leadership of the United Commonwealth   And with that increased support, came the eventual decision to create a formal, official collection of organisations within the United Commonwealth, for the purposes of recuiting, training, and adminstering all non-citizens who would wish to serve the United Commonwealth Army.

Structure

Combat Formations
The Internationals, like other "Corps", fight at the Battalion level and below. All in all, there are 15 Internationals, the 1st to 10th being Infantry, and given the designations 181st to 190th Infantry Battalions, the 11th 1nd 12th being Cavalry, the 91st and 92nd respectively, and the 13th to 15th are Armoured Battalions, the 23rd to 25th.   Internationals are treated roughly the same as the rest of the Army, as far as deplyments are concerned. Composed of around 600 soldiers in a wide variety roles, with more generally attached to the Battalion from the higher echelons of its parent Regiment.

Traditions and Culture

Dress And Attire
"I've always wondered, why exactly is it that every one in the Regiment is always wearing dress, and not fatigues like everyone else?"   "Well, my dear Lieutenant, that story was first relayed to me over an hour long Mess Dinner by my old Colonel, and let's just say it was a long damned story filled with a great many words better left unsaid in polite company. To put it shortly, let's just say 'The Royal Harling Fusiliers were Jackasses that one time, and said we looked like unwashed rabble, and we have spent almost a century proving them wrong!' "
— Lt. Gen. Schmidt, giving a brief history lesson to Lt. Sekibo on Regimental History
Despite their unique status within the United Commonwealth Army, The Internationals have taken the concept of unique Traditions with every bit as much enthusiasm as every other Regiment.   Mess Dinner
