Durkhar
Endurance through Creation
Durkhar is a nation carved not by the hands of gods, but by the will of mortals who dared to defy the ice and stone of the Icefall Reach.
Here, technology is sparked by the lifeblood of it's people.
History
Before Durkhar
The Icefall reach has been home to much strive between the once-scattered species. The orc warclans living on the mountains made traversing them a very dangerous task. The dwarves who made the underground their homes were rather secular and only ever traded with the humans for supplies they could not easily find in their mines. The human settlements were plagued by orcish raids and barren lands.
Many conflicts were fought over the scarce resources the mountains had to offer.
Yet a sort of agreement came to be after the many long years spent in the mountains together.
The humans would pay the orcs a tribute to protect them while traveling through the mountains.
The orcs had trouble feeding their growing population so this method not only increased their food supply but also their able bodies workforce.
The dwarfs benefitted from the increased trade and production from the humans for the many supplies they brought.
The Icefall Accord was an alliance that benefitted all 3 of the races greatly.
Some years into this alliance Durkhan, The forgefather, came with a revelation of enormous consequences. The gods needed help with a project of the utmost importance and the Accord would need to provide not only the raw materials but also the technological prowess to help produce it. The Mana Discharge Pylon was a project that would span multiple generations and all of the races on the continent.
The founding of Durhar
The catastrophic failure of the Pylons had become a myth at the time of the founding of Durkhar. It started because of a single monumental event: The fall of the underground kingdom of the dwarves. In recent years, the portals had been increasing in appearance. This was of some concern but not to the dwarfs, who were confident in their supreme defence. This arrogance proved their downfall. A portal had appeared in the forgotten mines of Gratz-var-Medra, unnoticed by anyone. From this portal came goblins in the thousands. The crafty creatures did not immediately start to attack the dwarfs. They amassed an army. This army marched for the dwarven capital when the dwarfs of Gratz-var-Medra were celebrating the discovery of a new mithral mine. The slaughter did not last long. None survived that night. It would take the dwarfs as a whole another 4 days to discover the invasion. By this point it was already too late. City after city was overrun. Seeing no hope of winning the dwars abandoned their cities. All but one entrance to the underground was collapsed. This entrance would be the place where upon the dwarfs would get their revenge, so they swore. Aptly named: Baraz-Thurin or Dwarven vengeance, the bastion that guards the entrance and it holds this name to this day. Seeing the dire situation of the dwarves the other 2 races decided that a deeper collaboration was necessary. So they visited the Forgefather, located in his humble abode near the peak of Zharad-Kheled. There the leaders of each of the races debated the god for 2 days. In the evening of day 2 they returned with a proclamation. They would build the capital of a new country there. This would be Zanuk-Thar and this is, to this day, the capital city of Durkhar.Economy
