The Blood Dominion of Mallus IV
"The Blood Dominion of Mallus IV is a place of darkness and great evil. It is our duty, as defenders of the Greater Elven Federation, to do all that we can to keep them north of those cursed mountains!"
-King Jannus III of Lark to his generals before the Third Great War, 6E 791
Vampirism is, in actuality, the furthest thing from a curse. It is eternal life, eternal power, eternal strength. And, I say this day, it will one day rule this wretched place.
-Archduke Bianca Romano, 4E 435
Structure
King The Blood Dominion is ruled by a single king, advised by a council of the highest nobles from the kingdom. The current king is Mallus IV, who has been reigning for almost 800 years.
Duke The Dukes of the Kingdom are vampires who own large plots of land and hgave many knights, including vassals. They are all bound by blood-oaths to the king. Each commands a medium army.
Arch-Baron The lords of castles and frequently the most "day-to-day" nobles, Archbarons run small cities and provinces throughout the kingdom.
Baron Barons do not own their own castles or armies, but advise Arch-Barons. They command a few of their own Blood Knights, however.
Blood Knight This is the lowest rank of nobleship. A Blood Knight is a vampiric paladin of sorts who fights in the name of both his nobleman and King. They each lead a small unit (a company of around 100) Blood Warriors that they train and their noble patron arms.
Public Agenda
The Blood Dominion is very power-hungry and lusts to gain more control over Vatur. While espousing peace with its enemies, its operatives work to undermine the other nations across the continent.
Assets
25,000 trained Blood Warriors, 1,000 Blood Knights, 37 warships, trading vessels, populace of about 1 million, about half of whom are vampires.
History
Founding The Blood Dominion was founded early in the First Era, although the date is unknown only to the most ancient vampires within the kingdom.
The First Great War, 1E 338 After clashes with the Greater Elven Federation to the south, a war broke out. It started small, with a few thousand Elven soldiers marching north across the Primeval Palisade. After the Dominion bit back with much larger numbers, a bigger war-party were assembled. The Elven Union struck back mercilessly, slaughtering civilians and soliders alike. The Dominion lost almost half its territory to the east.
The Second Great War, 1E 442 The Second Great War was a furious, blood-crazed revenge of the vampiric empire. They decimated Elven populations as far south as the Bonia Lake in the Federation.
The Third Great War, 2E 32 The most recent Great War was over 3,000 years ago, but its memory still draws out the most bitter emotions found in the cold north. Its greatest king, Mallus Bloodfist, was killed fending off the Elves. While recorded in history books as a victory, it was nothing short of Pyrrhic.
Recent History The Blood Dominion has been relatively quiet until recently, when it began rebuilding an army. No one knows why.
