Speaking Frog; A guide to Gren Idioms

Sir Herbert Hollis lived among the Gren for over two decades learning their ways. Upon his return, he published a book of Idioms and common Gren sayings. He suggests that the differing meanings between common Gren and Human sayings has lead to many of their disputes.   Idioms and Sayings   "Spiders and Flies" - That's Awesome!   "The Flies aren't going to just jump into your mouth." - If you want something you have to work for it.   "He has sticky fingers." - He is completely and utterly normal.   "It makes the poison seep from my skin." - Something is very scary and/or dangerous.   "All Suckers and Thums." - The person is extremely dexterous.   "Born with the flies in his mouth." - A Gren who doesn't have to work for anything.   "Their croak is worse than their tongue" - They yell and make a fuss but are rarely driven to violence.   "He has all four feet on the ground" - He is incredibly foolish. The forest floor is dangerous and no place a Gren should ever be.   "A Sucker Nibbler!" - An incredibly close game or tense but not dangerous situation.   "To keep at a Tongue's length." - To keep at a safe distance, approximately 10 feet.   "He has a frog in his throat." - He is extremely talkative.   "It makes my suckers slick." - It makes me very uncomfortable.   "Wrap your tongue around it." - To understand something   "He went swimming in the delta" - He went to do something exceedingly dangerous and most likely fatal. The poisonous nature of the river at that point makes swimming there fatal. Entering that place has become closely associated with meeting one's death in Gren Culture.   Tadpole Expressions: Meaningful in the Gren's youth but loses meaning as the Gren ages and is no longer a tadpole.   "Spill your gills." - Tell someone everything.   "At the top of my Gills" - Speaking or screaming at a loud volume.

Those idioms were quite fun, except for the "At the top of my Gills" one. Frogs do not have gills, they lose them after transitioning from tadpoles. Just something to think about.

A really good point. My plan was for the Gren to be born as tadpoles. So these would be youthful expressions that lose their meaning as the Gren ages.

I see, thanks for the clarification.
