Semelcar

Semelcar of Kumanovo (27 IB – 86 IB) was a First Century Rommish Emunite preacher and Hierophant, whose teachings were condemned as heretical in 90 IB by the First Council of Berytus. His theology forms the basis of Semelism, the third largest Acacian religion.   Semelcar was among the second wave of converts, traveling to Berytus in 35 IB when he had heard of the exploits of Acacius. He was converted and drowned by a Hierophant in Salon in 39 IB, and appointed to the priesthood in 42 IB. He was made the pastor of a small church in Pelagasia, but was removed in 45 IB after censure for heresy. He left for the Rommark, and preached his own views quite successfully. By the time of his death in 86 IB he was considered as powerful as Metropolitan Iban Acacias in matters of religion. The nascent Berytusian Empire was unable to stamp out heresy during this period because of Iban Acacias' declining mental state. It is estimated (by the Fifth Century historian Tanus of Aquillea) that as much as 70% of Emuna believed in Semelism at the time of the First Council of Berytus. Despite this, his entire theology was anathematized by the Council, and the orthodoxy of Paul Simon prevailed.   Semelcar is considered a saint on par with Acacius in Semelism, and his veneration is practiced widely within the religion. Semelites have continued to play a role in Emunite society, appearing commonly as part of the aristocracy or merchant classes.
