Jameron snapper (Jam-er-awn)

Jameron snappers are small ambush predators that lie in wait for those foolish enough to prod around their jaws. They bury themselves into the sand and poke their rock-like heads out as a lure. As a descendant of the snapping turtle these creatures have incredible jaw strength, and can easily sever bone. However generations of maneuvering through the harsh desert sands has caused for the hardback shells of these creatures to cover its entire body, making it clunky and very prone to heat stroke. This forced the snappers to permanently submerge itself in the ground, and have evolved into bodies remarkably similar to those of sea turtles. When it travels sand and rocks are filtered out through hole on the side of its jaws, and when it hunts a thin film prevents sand from collecting in its maw. Jameron's can last without food for 189 days, but requires still requires water after a few months. Unlike most turtles Jameron snappers live and hunt in packs, as it is the best chance of food for them. A group of Jameron snappers is called a minefield.
Packs of these animals are almost always in the vicinity of corpses or outcroppings, waiting for the chance to strike. It's best to be mindful of where you step!

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The leather and shells of these turtles are extremely durable and thick and are often sold off as armor parts, though many travelers use them as hats. Additionally, the claws and spikes are often carved and used as arrowheads, daggers, and small throwables for those willing to take the risk. Many desperate adventures will harvest and consume the meats of the snappers, though it often times tastes disgustingly bitter. Only the seasoned nomads of the Cavala Desert can properly cook the food, to which it taste savory with a faint sweetness.
