A world not that different from our own, but one completely strange. A world of warriors and would-be sorcerers wielding power they don't fully understand, and priests of a god that has been forgotten.   Historians believe that at some point in the past, technology was much more advanced than it is now, but this has been lost to the ravages of time. These days before written memory are now known as the Dim World. What is known is that the Cataclysm happened at year 0, reducing the civilization of that time to rubble. People speak of it with hushed voices, but no one knows what it actually was.   Three thousand years have passed since then. All that remains of the Dim World are occasional ruins that can be stumbled upon in the desert. What were originally small bands of survivors have grown into nations and empires in their own right, developing distinct philosophies and power structures.   Reason is King among the upper classes of the Eastern Sylv-- Power in the cold deserts of the Northern West. Though dismissed as impossible by the philosophers of the East, the magicians hailing from the West can do strange things. As scientist make discoveries and sorcerers improve their techniques, tensions begin to rise. Soon, in order to progress, the world will need to know the answer to one question:   Is sorcery real, or merely an illusion?
