Reputation System
Reputation is an abstract concept which should exist in most D&D settings. However, I find it much more tangible and easy to conceptualise when it is represented concretely with points. This also provides a progression system with clearly defined rewards and consequences. Reputation is still somewhat abstract and can vary from faction to faction, but this is the basic template.
Generally speaking, the party will have a reputation with every faction. Depending on the nature of the faction, reputation will start at -10, 0, or +10. Reputation will sometimes be tracked for specific NPCs, but I generally like to keep interpersonal reputation more abstract and loosely defined, or tied to the reputation with a faction an NPC is affiliated with. One exception being shopkeepers, who may offer discounts and partnerships depending on reputation.
