Terrassa, a world where the use of magic comes at personal cost, and in the days of the past that was frequently blood not always from sorcerer themselves.   In the Age of the Mage-Kings ruled vast kingdoms lording over hoarded knowledge and power. Using the blood of slaves and subjects to fuel powerful armies, they warred and conquered in an ever shifting landscape of desolation, where the layperson hoped to be run through by an army collecting their dues rather than collected for their coffers.   Until suddenly, the world of the past was Beheaded and all of these powerful individuals, and indeed all leaders and scholars with all their hoarded wealth and knowledge vanished, stagnating the sentient races for generations, starting what's known as the Age of Ignorance.   The course of history was turned once again when the refining process for Ichor, a dangerous natural resource with no innate natural properties was discovered. The refined material proved highly useful, with serious implications for travel and trade. Furthermore it can be used as a payment for the Cost of Magic and the taboo of the process developed during the Age of Ignorance is slowly being eroded. Now, what has been labeled the Age of Refinement is in full swing, economies are flush with coin and many areas have turned their focus towards culture.
