Theorodoph
Structure
Patari
The Patari is the ruling leader of Theorodoph. He is always male, and resides within the inner temple. He is the one that passes on the wisdom of Illarius, and is the only one allowed within the innermost of the temple. Inside, he prays for wisdom, and accepts offerings for the god. Oftentimes, he will enter the inner rooms, and fast for months on end, and only come out after being allowed to by Illarius. If the reigning Patari passes on into the embrace of Illarius, it is said that a citizen will be chosen, and prepare for 3 years before becoming the next Patari
The 16 Polcolades
The Polcolades are the Acolytes of the Patari. There can only be 16 at a time. No more, and no less. This is because the number 16 is considered to be a perfect number in the culture. They go out and preach to the masses, announce important events, and assist in offerings. They also listen to the Yishtin, and pass the messages to the Patari. They are chosen from the most devoted of the Yishtin.
The Yishtin
The Yishtin act as a sort of connection between the common folk, and the upper echelon of religious figures. They pass on messages from the masses to the Polcolades. There is no limit to the amount of Yishtin there can be, and they oftentimes act as normal people. No one below them are allowed to talk to religious figures.
Commons
These are the simple common folk, who worship Illarius, and talk to the Yishtin. These are the store owners, metalworkers, farmers, etc. They go to pray to the temple every day at the sun's highest point, and fast on days of holy semblance.
The Condemned
These are the banished people, the lowest of the low. These are the ones that rejected Illarius, or committed a great crime. One can only become a condemned if Illarius deems it so, after which, the Patari will exclaim it from the temple, and they are thrown into the slums. Condemned have no rights, and people can do whatever they please with them.
Culture
Religion
The religion of this city centers around the god Illarius, bringer of light, and destroyer of unjust. It is said that every day, light comes because of the offerings given, which gives him strength to throw the sun across the sky. Night time comes when Illarius needs to rest, and the moon is thrown to give light in the darkness. This is why it's smaller, because it's easier to throw. Nights with a New Moon happen when Illarius doesn't get enough offerings, and is too tired from throwing the sun.
Trade
The city runs adjacent to a river, so small ships can easily access it. Theorodoph is widely known for its large selection of flavorful crops, grains, and fruits. These are considered a luxury anywhere else, so they are sold for high prices to tourists. Half of all money gained goes towards offerings for Illarius.
Structures
The entire city is built around the temple. The temple is a towering stacked pyramid, easily visible from any of the many winding streets. Buildings are built simply, with most only being one story. Most shops are simple tents set up along empty streets.
