Banes
The unpredictable world of Banes
649 CE
You all live on the diverse world of Banes. The lands, countries, and homes of every individual exist on a single, Pangea-like continent. Natural barriers such as impassable mountain ranges or dense forests separate distinct regions. This isolation fosters unique cultures and societies. Because of the number of societies at odds with each other, these lands are tumultuous, war and strife common among many regions.
One consistency remains across the continent; Ichor. Ichor (Magic) is the wellspring of power that allows wondrous feats to occur. In almost any civilization, a rare few people are found to be able to wield the abilities granted by Ichor. This power is absurdly rare and often distrusted or feared. Its presence, when it does manifest, is subtle and unpredictable, and tends to work differently from person to person. Instead, technology has advanced through innovation and craftsmanship. Blacksmiths forge intricate weapons and armor, engineers design elaborate siege engines, and alchemists concoct potent potions and explosives. Scholars study ancient texts and artifacts, seeking knowledge and power in a world where the supernatural is viewed with skepticism.
Beyond the settled lands lie untamed wildernesses teeming with dangerous creatures and ancient mysteries. Adventurers and explorers brave uncharted territories in search of lost treasures, forgotten knowledge, and opportunities for fame and fortune. Ruined cities buried beneath sand dunes, hidden temples shrouded in jungle mists, and perilous mountain passes guarded by fearsome beasts await those bold enough to venture into the unknown.
Banes is a world of contrasts and conflicts, where the resilience of its people is tested daily against the backdrop of relentless warfare and untamed wilderness. Amidst the chaos and strife, opportunities for heroism, discovery, and profound transformation reveal themselves. These traits shape the destiny of people and places alike in a vast and unpredictable world.
