Gudmund Twice-Born

Chosen of Eir; Speaker for the Dead

A simple Norseman, Gudmund was a healer in devoted service to the goddess Eir. Early in his career he was struck down in battle against a goblinkin infestation and while such a fate was not uncommon for many, Gudmund's unwavering devotion caught the attention of his goddess.   When he stood before Eir to face his judgement it is said the Moirai whispered to her of his devotion and the journey that lay before him should he be allowed to return to Terra. While the return of souls to Terra to obtain their final reward was not uncommon among some pantheons, never had such a soul returned in their own time and certainly not on the same path they had been they had been traveling.   It is said that only Odin may know the truth of it, but Eir returned Gudmund's soul to his body to continue his journey in her service. Tales of his miraculous return to life spread throughout the world, but it was primarily among the Norse people that he was revered as the "Twice-born".   It is believed by those who continue to revere him after his death, when he faced his final judgement, his devotion was deemed so great his soul was elevated and Eir named him "Speaker for the Dead", granting him the power to return souls to Terra Viejo in their own time to finish their journey, as had been done with him.
