Fetterloc

Home to the Temple of the Mother

A small coastal town, with modest stone walls and an always-open gate - Fetterloc presents as both welcoming and reassuring. Soft plumes of smoke rise from the many chimneys within the town walls, giving an onlooker a sense of their work-ethic and simpler way of life. Painting the backdrop for the town; a forbidding forest rises, pressing against the sky. This forest stretches as far as the eye can see, and towers far above that of any terrestrial creature. Acting as both a protective backing for the town and a border for those within the forest itself, the forest has become as much a part of Fetterloc as any citizen or structure.

Demographics

There is a healthy mix of ethnicities within Fetterloc, the majority of which are Human and Half-Orc with the odd spattering of Dwarves, Half-Elves and even the odd Halfling.   The wealth of the town is not separated by ethnicity or caste, instead the majority of wealth tends to lean towards those in the business of craft and trade.

Government

Fetterloc is run by a council; each of whom represent different sections of the local populace, headed by a noble named Sir Arthur Mirren. Considered the owner of the town, Sir Mirren acts as a localised Head of Council and holds a mostly political position. The rest of the council is made up of the following individuals: Faith, The Mother [The Temple Mother] (Spymaster) Angus ?? [Lawmaster] Katya Chernov, Head Physician [Head Physician]

Defences

  • High Walls with battlements and archer towers.
  • A large, wooden gate with iron reinforcement.
  • Designed for modest attacks/sieges, and by no means a fortress.

Industry & Trade

Major exports are rare hides and minerals - collected from within the forest. Fetterloc also acts as a political bastion for certain entities.

Infrastructure

A central market square makes up the most frequented section of the city, sitting just outside the gates to the town hall and surrounded by the tourist-aimed accommodation. Moving out from this center-point the houses and buildings slowly decrease in quality and value, eventually ending where the farmlands begin. The town is surrounded on 3 sides by a large, thick wall. The remaining side backed by the thick forest that covers most of Western Pernium's End.

Assets

The market square, although dominated by semi-permanent stalls, owes most of its value to the high-class accommodation that exists at its edges. Designed to house visiting diplomats and guests of honour, these inns are of the highest standard (relative to the land of Pernium's End, of course). Additionally, Jurick the Blacksmith holds a very high standing among the Smithing community and, as such, his wares are highly sought after.

History

The town of Fetterloc sprung up around the Temple of the Mother, a sacred site for the worshipers of Chauntea. Given its proximity to both the forest and the coastline, Fetterloc soon became a small trading town. Building on its mercantile roots, Fetterloc soon became a regular stop-over for those travelling around the western coast. These visitors included highly-respected, very powerful nobles/diplomats/etc. Soon, the town would gain importance as a political meeting point, bridging the gap between the people of the forest, and those that settled outside of it.   More recently, the town came under siege by an army lead by a mysterious Necromancer during the beginning stages of the The March of Death , repelled largely thanks to a rag-tag group of adventurers and their efforts to muster the people of Fetterloc. Alongside them were the men and women of the [Pernium's Watch]. This event became known as [The Siege of Fetterloc], with the history books recording it as a win for the Custodians of Life. Although only hearsay, there are reports of a Great Dracolich appearing during the battle, only to be fought off by the Mother, Faith.

Architecture

No consistent style, or defining architecture. The building styles change vastly from the inner district to the farmlands. However, it may be noted that the farmhouses/barns follow that of a medieval style, with exposed wooden beams and simple materials. The poorer districts present that of an 18th Century London style.
