Romana

Romana, also known as "The Human Capital City", is the city reserved for the Gods most favored humans. As a result, it is the wealthiest and most finely built city in all of the world, and the people who live there enjoy luxuries and refinements almost as if they were Gods themselves. Romana City is the envy of the mortal world and the humans who are honored enough to live there enjoy a certain security and reputation that others around Terra do not have. Life outside of the city walls is harsh and cruel, so many who live in Romana refuse to ever leave. As long as they continuously to show gratitude to the Gods' glories, the people of Romana can live long and happy lives.

Demographics

Romana is home to humans from all regions. All who live in Romana enjoy excessive wealth, which is spent lavishly on passing traders. Romana is an exclusively human settlement, but does house some lesser Gods, such as Epimetheus, the banished Titan.

Government

Romana is ruled by a group of elected representatives collectively known as the Senate, however the city executive (known as "The High Lord") is appointed by the Gods themselves. Romulus was the first appointed and current High Lord of Romana. It is expected that he will own the title until his death.

Defences

Romana is surrounded by white marble walls designed to keep out bandits, beasts, and other dangerous forces. Outside of the walls is considered wild and dangerous by those who live in Romana, so most Romana inhabitants do not leave the protection of the city walls. However, plenty of traders, adventurers, and other visitors travel in and out of the city gates, eager to sell their wares to Romana's wealthy residents.

Industry & Trade

Romana is home to the world's finest artisans.

Infrastructure

Romana has an extensive network of roads and aqueducts, as well as a sewer system.

Districts

Because Romana serves primarily as the home of the Olympians most beloved humans, it is mostly comprised of lavish neighborhoods and villas. The center of Romana houses the local government building, a thriving market, as well as a university.

History

As human mortals grew and started creating settlements, the Olympians and other Gods couldn't help intermingling with them and picking favorites. Then, after the introduction of daimones from Pandora's Box, human life became brutal and short, encouraging the Olympians to create a "safe" city for their favorite humans to dwell in relative safety.    The city was designed and built by the Gods Vulcan and Venus. Then Mars created a competition to select the city rulers. After the twin brothers Romulus and Remus eliminated their competition, Mars revealed the final trial: the brothers must fight each other to the death and the winner would receive the title of Lord of Romana. Remus refused to fight, but Romulus had no qualms with slaughtering his own brother for the title. Pleased with Romulus's ambition, Mars granted the title of High Lord to Romulus. Romulus has been the leader of Romana ever since.

Points of interest

  • The Romana Senate building is considered to be the finest government building in all of Terra. It boasts 12 marble pillars (one for each ruling Olympian) and at the center of the pillars stands the statue of the Wolf Mother who cared for Romulus and his brother as infants. The Wolf Mother serves as a symbol of Romana.
  • The Temple of the Burning Flame is the main home of the Vestals, the most powerful religious cult in all of Terra. The Vestals also run the university.
  • The Town Forum is the center of the city and home to the world's largest market, hosting traders from all four regions. It includes vendors and shops but also a stage for performances, sermons, or other events.

Architecture

Romana is the only human settlement modeled directly after the buildings on Olympus, the home of the Gods. Many humans say that it is the closest they will ever get to the home of the Gods.

Geography

Romana is located in a valley a little less than 30 miles West from the foot of Olympus. The city is surrounded by a mixture of forest and grasslands. The valley receives fresh water from streams that originate from Olympus itself. Some travelers even come to Romana in the hopes of drinking and bathing the waters of Olympus for its healing properties.

Climate

Romana is located in an area with a temperate climate. It experiences hot summers and cold winters and the occasional thunderstorm.

Natural Resources

Romana has an abundance of fresh water and fertile soils due to its proximity to Olympus. Farmers and lumbermen occupy some of the grasslands and forests surrounding Romana, but avoid getting too close to Olympus in fear of angering the Gods by damaging the sacred space through their work. As a result, most agriculture takes place on the far side of the city.
