Gravesend
A tiny village at the edge of the wood. It's history is steeped in blood, and its present is made by living in its past.
Demographics
The propulation of Gravesend is almost entirely human, though there is a small Elvish community present, as well as a dwarven family.
Government
Gravesend is ruled by a local Lord, Mulius Grimme who's family was given the land after Nicalao Grimme successfully defended the kingdom of Assaria against the Drow there in 887DR
Defences
The town is protected by its walls that were built after the Drow Invasion of 887. The palisades are made out of Darkwood and are unnaturally strong and sharp. The stone walls were added afterwards, in spaces where they had been breached in the battle against the Drow. There is a barracks located on the southern side of the town.
Industry & Trade
The town exports Darkwood to the rest of the kingdom, as well as possessing a thriving trade in rare furs and meats
Infrastructure
There are outer walls of Darkwood palisades and stone, a sawmill, and a smithy
Assets
There is a general goods store, as well as a small armory.
Guilds and Factions
The Grimme family rules over the town, and most of the inhabitants of Gravesend pay their Lords with great respect.
The millitary unit within town is highly loyal to the Grimme family, though they answer to the King in Valanis.
The other main group within Gravesend are the Hounds of Obad-Hai, a scouting and hunting guild that has been in Gravesend since before the Grimme family ruled it.
History
Originally known as Fallgrove, the village of Gravesend was once a small lumber village of minor consequence to Assaria, but in 860DR, the Drow began to invade from the East, but were largely held off. Then in 887 DR, the Drow army abruptly sent the brunt of their forces in a surprise attack from the South. General Nicalao Grimme held the line and his unit killed thousands of Drow, and afterwards the town was renamed Gravesend, after the sheer brutality of the battle. The millitary then set up permanent shop in Gravesend, to make sure an invasion could not happen again.
Architecture
Gravesend was once a millitary fortification, and that shows from its outer walls, a mix of wooden palisades and stone. Inside of the town, there is a small stone barracks that is a scout base, but other than that the buildings in the town are wood. Notably, the mansion of the Grimme family is made almost entirely of Darkwood.
Geography
Gravesend is located on a large cleared plain, that is bordered on its West side by a dark, deep wood.
Natural Resources
The forest to the west of Gravesend has a variety of hard woods, tall pine trees, as well as a large number of Darkwood trees.
