Gnome

"The greatest evil that we are facing is the tyranny of the elven commerce system." -Jemel Stonecutz, Gnome Rights Activist.

Vibrant Activists

A gnome’s energy and enthusiasm for identity politics shines through every inch of his or her tiny body. Gnomes average slightly over 3 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds. Typically, their faces are usually adorned with broad smiles (beneath their prodigious noses), and their bright eyes shine with excitement; until they become offended. Their fair hair has a tendency to stick out in every direction, as if expressing the gnome’s uncertainty in everything around.   A gnome’s personality is writ large in his or her appearance. Typically, male and female gnomes are difficult to distinguish from. This stems from the belief that anything that challenges the status quo is beautiful. A gnome’s clothing, though usually made in modest earth tones, is elaborately decorated with embroidery, embossing, or gleaming jewels to demonstrate how thoroughly against economies they are.

Demonizing Dedication

As far as gnomes are concerned, advocating and inventing is a wonderful thing. Gnomes speak as if they can’t get the thoughts out of their heads fast enough. Even as they offer ideas and opinions on a range of subjects. Will some dwarves may recall a where gnomes still managed to listen carefully to others, while adding the appropriate exclamations of surprise and appreciation along the way, this no longer seems to be the case. Though gnomes proclaim that they love jokes of all kinds, they have a proclivity to offense and outrage. Many gnomes are skilled engineers, alchemists, tinkers, and inventors. They’re willing to overlook the many mistakes they make, while holding others to an unrealistic standard.   Typically, gnomes make their homes in hilly, wooded lands when not attending universities. They live underground but get more fresh air than dwarves do but will often make proclamations of dwarves adding to the destruction of nature. Their homes are well hidden by both clever construction and simple illusions. Welcome visitors are quickly ushered into the bright, warm burrows. Those who are not welcome are unlikely to find the burrows in the first place. Gnomes who settle in human lands are commonly gemcutters, engineers, sages, or tinkers. Historically, some human families would retain gnome tutors, ensuring that their pupils enjoy a mix of serious learning and delighted enjoyment. It was not uncommon for gnome tutor of the past to have several generations of a single human family over the course of his or her long life.   Curious and impulsive, gnomes might take up adventuring as a way to see the world or for the love of demonizing other cultures while appropriating their values. As gnomes are deeply against personal wealth, they enjoy showing others how opposed to personal wealth they are through their large collections of gems and other fine items. Typically, these items are procured through looting or other social activities. Regardless of what spurs them to adventure, gnomes who adopt this way of life run the risk of having their world views corrupted and leading them to be shunned by other gnomes.
