Session 29: Justice Returns

General Summary

Having spent the evening shopping and carousing, the party awoke to a new dilemma: "what now?" Their quest, the task that had driven them for months, was no finally accomplished. Sure there were bad guys in the world, but which to tackle first? Were they even worth tackling? There was much to discuss.   It was Gregory Blakhuv  and Elrohir Battlebard  who made their case most loudly. Something had happened to the elven envoy, including Elrohir's mother Leana, and they did not feel they could leave until the matter was investigated. Something in the forest was off and in dire need of fixing. The two promised to help the others in their own personal quests should they agree to accompany them on this; a quest for a quest. The party agreed.   Making use of Elrohir's new magical bracelet, the group wind walked across the forest in the direction of the druidic holy site to which the missing elves were headed. They arrived without much difficulty only to discover a troll had taken residence in the small shrine. Through much trickery, the party was able to bypass the defensive but dense guardian and discern that no one had recently made use of the ritual site. The elves had never made it here.   Thinking on his feet, Gregory was able to complete a simple ritual that allowed Morgran Forgehardt to commune with Sehanine Moonbow, elven goddess of the moon, who promised to visit one member of the party in their sleep with visions of the path forward. In the meantime, the party made their way back towards Faelorn'roi, slowing retracing their steps hoping to catch a trail of the elven party.   It was in the night that answers came. Elrohir, meeting the Moonbow in his sleep, was given a vision of the druids running toward a small lake, chased in the night by several yellow eyes glowing in the night. Ronin's brand began to glow. He had a message from Anomalous warning him of danger to the current timeline, a need to fix the issues in the forest, and that they were sending him back up. Confused he looked around as suddenly Belerath, the celestial warlock better known as Captain Justice, came tumbling loudly through the underbrush. It seemed his back up had arrived.   The party was reunited with their ally only briefly before a scream in the nigh sent them off running. Justice waits for no one. Leading the charge, Captain Justice arrived at to the sight of two giant apes and a roughed-up elven woman suspended in the air, stuck in the midst of some sort of carnivorous plant life. She begged for help, and thanks to some clever polymorphing and ape sexual tension, the party was able to free the elf without a fight. Clearly relieved, she begged that they follow her further down the path. She was part of the druidic party that had been attacked. The others had sent her for help; they had been set on in the night by a large creature and had fled to a nearby small lake. Justice spurred them onward.   Arriving at the lake, the party was confronted with the monstrous form of a huge hydra, a many headed amphibious creature, which quickly struck out at the party. Little did this being know it was well outmatched by our heroes, and though its heads struck out at every opportunity, the fire magic of Medran Emberborn and Morgran kept the beast from recovering and regrowing any new heads. Before too long, the monster was slain with no casualties to the party.   The group spread out around the lake, finding week-old tracks leading into the water. Upon further investigation, Ronin and Morgran found a bloated, decomposing elf carcass stuck in some underwater foliage. They freed the body and floated with it to the surface, only to find their friends were gone, replaced with three panicked female elves on the shore, one bleeding out, another trying to heal her, the third yelling for help in a panic.   The rest of the party waited for Morgran and Ronin to surface, but tension quickly grew with their new elf companion. She seemed almost upset that they had slain the hydra, talking under her breath that they were very hard to train but made good guardians. The group, rightly creeped out by this talk, tried to use magic (unsuccessfully) on the woman. Instead of succumbing to the effect of the spells, she grew in size, her form shifting, and turning to a deep green. In only a moment's time, Gregory, Medran, Elrohir, and Belerath stood before a gargantuan green dragon, Revaniss the Watcher.   A battle ensued, but it became clear quickly that the group was well outmatched by their ancient foe. Gregory polymorphed Elrohir into a Tyrannosaurus Rex to take on the beast, but the dragon was stronger. In a final act of just bravery, Belerath drew the dragon's attention, yelling for the rest of the party to get away. One by one, they dove into the lake's water, surfacing to the sight of their friends Morgran and Ronin aiding in healing and calming the injured elf women. Medran was last to enter the lake portal, witnessing Revaniss pouncing on Belerath, who stood firm in the strength justice to the very end. Unable to help his friend(?), Medran too entered the water, welcomed into the safety and danger of the Feywild.
