Session 18: Shadows of the Duskember Temple

General Summary

With Elrohir Battlebard staying behind for some mental RnR with the monks of the Murrin Monastery, the rest of the group made their way north into the mountain pass. They found things had begun the process of recovering from their past year of subjugation to the First Sinner and its corruption; apparently Pallbearer Thane had been leading expeditions to restore the area, focusing his attention on the Duskember Temple -- the exact location to which our heroes(?) were headed.   Arriving at the temple, the party found remains of Thane's crew; it appeared they had cleared to the bottom level of the temple, though something had gone awry. After a brief encounter with the strange Juriel, they descended into the temple's depths.   A thick magical darkness covered the face of what appeared to be the remains of a divine prison. The shadows of the place seemed almost to fight against the light. After exploring, fighting some monster, and climbing the panopticon's central tower, the group faced off against a Greater Shadow Demon who had been locked in this prison until managing to escape, sending the temple and the surrounding area into ruin.   With the Demon defeated, Alsbane the Cleric completed a cleansing ritual on the temple, light flooded the space, re-energizing the temple... including its magical defenses. The group made a dash for the exit, just barely making it through before the Prismatic barrier sealed them in (in Grumm's case having to push through the barrier thanks to a magic amulet). After the temple's cleansing, Juriel revealed himself to be a polymorphed Planetar who had originally been tasked with the guarding of the space before being corrupted. Successful in their act of favor towards Pelor, the group headed back down the mountain hopeful their task would be enough to grant Alsbane the power he needed to restore the King.
