Session 15: The Eye Revealed

General Summary

Following a long day chasing Jackalweres around the city, our party finally got onto the task for which they were commissioned: warn the Sun King that there was a plot to assassinate him, supposedly linked to the Eye and Davrilindil Lantandal, a young escaped elf from the kingdom of Faelorn'roi.
The party managed to seek an audience with King Leo'dren Reyspire and warned him of the plot -- as well as the business of finding a new baron for Berich Province. He agreed their worry was founded and hired the party to communicate with The Eye, as supposedly there was supposed to be an agreement between the two powerful leaders.
The group set out to found the Eye's hideout, their search leading them to the Leaning Door tavern, a poor man's The Yawning Portal in the Dark Quarter. There, they were tricked into an ambush with the promise of dungeons and riches and, with the help of a mysterious vigilante, burned down the tavern and made their escape.
They managed to make their way into the catacombs beneath the city, the place where the dead are kept, deep, deep underground. They made their way through a maze of tunnels before finally finding themselves in a promising locale. The group fought a banshee (and friends), barely escaping with their lives.
Behind the banshee's tomb the party found a secret passage into an unlit room with bookshelves covering the walls. In the center of the room, behind an ornate desk, sat the decaying body of a dead beholder. It seems they had found the Eye, but it was too late to discuss anything with him. As the party began to search, they beholder suddenly floated into the air, a zombified corpse!
The group made quick work of the zombie beholder, but was left with more questions than before. With the Eye dead, who was calling the shots on the assassination? The body appeared to be stabbed to death. What sort of weapon brings someone back as a zombie? Who was that mysterious stranger and why did he just run off into the night?
