Ellis Phillias

A stout, temperamental woman with a very large bosom who is apt to dress as a warrior, Ellis is stern, very proud and willful. Much to her chagrin, her physical appearance favors her father’s side, with her cold eyes and longue face. Though she can be charming, she is also very quick to anger and never forgets a slight. She is filled with bitterness over past injustices her brother and her mother have suffered, particularly the death of her mother’s love, Uther Pendragon. Her quick temper and her easily wounded pride frequently lead her to make rash decisions. She rejects the notion that a woman must become a lady and marry for influence and power, showing no interest in the womanly arts of dancing, singing, and sewing. She defies traditional Altean gender roles by wearing a sword to her belt and refusing to wear a dress.

Personal history

Ellis is the oldest daughter of Lady Arietta and Cornelius Lowell, duke of Caledonia and brother of the king of Altea. She has a younger brother, Marth, and a bastard half-brother, Inigo. During her youth, she was a spirited young girl who was very close to her mother and her younger brother. Throughout the hardships the three of them went, Ellis always displayed great resourcefulness and an unflinching ability to accept hard necessity. She was said to take after her fiery father in temperament. After being sent to a convent of sisters, she cut off her long hair as a way of silent rebellion, much to the horror of the other girls. She refused to learn the traditional duties of a noble woman and to be tutored in the traditional womanly arts. When one of the sisters discovered a wooden sword under her bed, they decided to indulge her, realizing that she must be trained if she is entertaining ideas about swordsmanship. Thus, Ellis began training under a Saccaean swordsman. Under his strict tutelage, she learned to fight in the Saccaean style and to control her anger better.
