Teilara (Planet)

The world anchor to the mortal plane. A realm of monsters, war, and survival; but also knowledge, love, and victory.

Geography

Teilara is a planet about 10% bigger than Earth. It is slightly closer than Earth is in the habitable zone of it's star; however the planet has a younger sun and lower geothermic energy production. Because of this, Teilara tends to have slightly colder global temperatures than Earth, and vastly lower sea level. Only about 55% of the planet is water. The rest is held underwater in the polar ice caps.
Teilara completes 256 rotations within one full orbit around Solaris, it's parent star. Each rotation takes 16 hours to complete. Due to the axis tilt of Teilara, there is a seasonal cycle. Albeit much faster than Earth's. Each season takes 64 Days, or 4 Moons, to complete. The shortest day of the year is the Winter Solstice. During this day, Solaris only rises for an average of 4 hours. The longest day of the year is the Summer Solstice. On this day, Solaris rises for an average of 12 hours. Due to it's tilt, these numbers may change based on one's position relative to the poles and equator. At the poles, Solaris may be ever present, as is the case in the summer. In the winter, however, Luna rules absolutely; fighting the light all winter. Around the equator, the changes in seasonal daylight are hard to see. Here the sun rises for around 8 hours year round.
Teilara is made up of 2 hemispheres, 4 oceans, 8 continents. There are, of course, the Northern and Southern Hemisheres. Then there are the 4 oceans. There are a number of large bodies of water, but the world ocean is generally divided into 4 parts: The Norse Ocean, The Southern Ocean, The Great Ocean, and the Sea of Souls. Although usually referred to as one, the Sea of Souls is actually an ocean. The 8 major continents, in order from largest surface area to smallest, are: Macchek, Kabuni, Talathir, Norslund, Tan-Y'ld, The Frozen Isles, Veselm, and Sundr.

Fauna & Flora

All mortal, organic creatures are from Teilara. All sapient races descended from one ancient progenitor race, however that race split four ways during its' spread across the world. These races are lost, but today, their legacy remains in the different phylum and genera of Teilara's current species. The four phylum known to naturalists are the Beastkin, the Reptilians, the Races of Man, and the Elementals. The species have evolved enough that most cannot breed.
