The Dragon Slayers

In olden times, cults and perverse use of knowledge and magic were used to bring the Dragon Queen Tiamat bodily into the world. A group of stalwart heroes stood against these overwhelming forces. Starting from humble beginnings in the small village of Mudcreek these heroes first met. Myradin the Druid, B.E.E.R the Cleric, Kheldar the Archer, Dan Teague the Bard, and Sector the Monk. After solving the villages unusual problems which involved the accidental releasing of a lich named Saarith, the group had their first encounter with the Cult of the Dragon. The Cult assaulted the village in their desire to steal all material wealth the village had, and bring it far to the north. Repelling the attack the group solidified themselves as local heros, then set off together to the north to Greenfields.   As they crested the hills before the town of Greenfields they saw smoke, they heard battle. The cult was striking again. Rushing to the aid of the town, they managed to hold off the cult within the small fort that lay at the center of the town. This culminated in a duel between the Moon Druid Myradin and Langdedrosa Cyanwrath, the half dragon leader of this assault on behalf of the Cult of the Dragon. Cyanwrath fell, and the cult broke their promise of not involving themselves in the duel to save their leader. The following day, the group infultrated the Cult's base camp nearby. Finally slaying Cyanwrath and capturing/breaking a number of dragon eggs contained within their camp.   Once the group was sure that Greenfields was safe they journeyed north to Baulder's gate then Waterdeep informing the local leaders of the cults movements and machinations. The group, was largely ignored as the leaders believed that the cult would pass into obscurity through its own diversive internal politics. The group then finally continuing the trek north towards Neverwinter.   Through luck, or divine providence they managed to hook up with a caravan, which was actually the Cult of the Dragon transporting the stolen goods to the north. Through their ingenuity they managed to incapacitate the entire caravan through a poisoned stew. Taking the cults wealth as their own they made a break for a nearby roadhouse to hide until the cult left them behind. Unfortunatly the cults influence was widespread at this point and they were discovered. About to be overwhelmed a group of Lizardfolk came to their aid, leading them through hidden passages and tunnels within the Mere of Deadmen to their village. The Lizardfolk pleaded with the adventurers to save their people being kept as slaves by the Cult in a nearby castle, and from being Lorded over by a Black Dragon.   The group agreed and lead the Assault on the delapidated castle. Discovering that within the bowels of the castle was an unusual rift that the cult used to escape their wrath. Unfortunatly their assault had not gone unnoticed by the Black Dragon who ruled this swamp. He personally assaulted the heros within the courtyard, but was driven back to his lair. The group, not wishing the Dragon to survive, and tell its fellows and the cult of their presence persued it, slaying it and its child. They then returned to the castle and prepared to step through the portal.   It was at this point that the group with humble beginnings who became local heros then known adventurers became known as Dragon Slayers and protectors of the Realm.     The work of the Cult of the Dragon reached a fevered pitch during this time. The final ritual pieces were being brought together, the cults were incredibly powerful rivaling that of the major factions of their time, the Dragon Slayers were the nail that drove this Era to its conclusion. Saving the prime material plane from Tiamat's rule, but also causing a plane wide disaster in the process.     After the heroes stepped through the portal the heroes found themselves on the outskirts of Parnast. A small village far to the north. Mists swirled through the cold mountain air, off in the distance a castle loomed, before them a hunting lodge stood with two guard drakes they had come to associate with the Cult of the Dragon. Going inside they were greated warmly by the current owner of the Lodge, a lady named Talis.   Talis knew who the heroes were and offered them a proposition. Join her, dismantle the cult from within, bathe in the riches the cult had stolen, make the cult into what it "rightfully" should become. The Supreme ruler of the Sword coast, also don't complete the Ritual for Tiamat's summoning as that would just make things... messy. The group decided to not join Talis, because although she had no plans in Summoning Tiamat herself, the cult would still bring ruin upon the coast, and possibly the rest of the continent.   Talis was seemingly unprepared for the Heroes sudden attack and the rest of the lodge fell quickly. After a quick investigation of the lodge and the ledgers contained within, it was revealed that some time had passed since they stepped into the portal back in the Mere of Dead men. That the castle off in the distance was a captured cloud giant castle the cult was using to transport a vast amount of wealth to the Well of Dragons as one of the final pieces of the tribute for Tiamat's arrival.   The group managed to sneak inside disguised as cultists, and then once they had ascertained the layout of the castle itself set into a motion to free the master of the castle, one Blagothkus the Cloud Giant. (Here after nicknamed Elsa). The group slew all the cult forces in one go, after a botched attempt at subtlety was had. The courtyard lay bloody and covered in corpses.   Elsa thanked them for freeing him from the cults control, but explained to them that a white dragon had made its nest in the bottom of his castle in order to protect the hoard the cult had gathered here until it could be made as an offering to the Dragon Queen. The heroes made their way to the bowels of the castle and after a long and icy battle managed to slay the beast, and thus captured even more wealth stolen from the denizens of the Sword Coast along with an ornate mask. A White Dragon Mask.   Having just discovered a relic of incredible power the heroes went back to Neverwinter and presented it to Lord Neverwinter. This time the heroes were taken much more seriously. It was explained that in their absence the cult had made even greater moves across the sword coast and that the Lord's Alliance, Emerald Conclave, Order of the Gauntlet had come together to resist their advances. It was explained to them that the Harpers had discovered the use of the Dragon Masks, as they were a key ritual component for the summoning of Tiamat, and that the location of two more masks had been discovered by the Cult. The Green Mask, and the Blue Mask.   The Heroes elected to go after the Blue Dragon Mask, leaving the green to be captured by the Emerald Conclave. Off to an old abandoned, yet still highly dangerous wizard's tower they traveled. Along the way they had to travel through the Maze that lead to the Wizards tower. Here the Heroes were tempted with even more wealth, and luxury but perservered and made it to the tower, slightly after the cult had through the aid of the Ancient blue dragon Lennithon. The Heroes battled their way through the trap laden tower eventually slaying the cultists and capturing the Blue Dragon Mask. Lennithon was enraged by this and attempted to destroy the tower. The tower reacted to this assault and granted the defenders of the tower the ability to do battle with this gargantuan beast in the sky above the tower. Through the aid of the tower were they able to fend off the dragon. Lennithon, not wanting to die here, fled to the north and his den. The Heroes, not wanting it to escae back to the Cult of the Dragon with news of their success in capturing the Blue Dragon mask perused it back to its den.   After a few days travel they arrived at Lennithon's Lair. Home to him, his mate, and young child, although this was unknown to our Heroes as they didn't plan on assaulting this dragon's lair when they first went on this mission. Going through the Lair the heroes cleared out the kobolds who served Lennithon, and from a size passage launched a surprise attack at a blue Dragon. Much to their chagrin, this was the Mate of Lennithon, who was just out of sight of the passage. Suddenly the Heroes were being assaulted from both sides. One side contained Lennithon and his mate, the other the child of the great dragon. Driven from the passage by Lenithon's magics the group was forced to fight in the largest chamber of his Lair. Half of their number fell beneath the onslaught of lightning breath attacks before Beer brought them back from the brink of death. In a final push all three dragons were slayed simultaneously by the desperate heroes through what they claimed was divine providence.   After this Triumph the group sought the other Dragon Masks, but were unfortunately too late, as the Cult of the Dragon was vast, and they were few. Each of the factions that had alligned themselves with the heroes seemed more content to bicker and nitpick their actions than actively contribute in the demise of the Cult of the Dragon. With a foul taste in their mouth they decided to seek out a legendary Gold Dragon to speak its wisdom to these annoying leaders. After much searching, they eventually found him. This Dragon did not deign to give them his name, saying that names had power and they had not yet earned such a privileged yet. All the same, Dan Teague with his silvered tongue was able to convince the great Dragon to make an appearance at the Lord's Council and rebuke the leaders for their childish behavior. So as a display of the Alliances failures the Great Dragon made an appearance within Neverwinter.   The Cult of the Dragon, however, had eyes and ears everywhere and learned of the Heroes plan. They set into motion a final attempt to stop this thorn in their sides and arranged for an assassination of them, and a hopefully of the great dragon as well. A flight of chromatic dragons, along with an army of cultists who had hidden themselves among the citizenry attacked during the Heroes' return to Neverwinter. The Heroes protected the citizenry as best as they could, while simultaneously harrying the flight of dragons. Through the combined efforts of the Lords Alliance forces who happened to be stationed in Never Winter, and the sudden appearnce of the Great Gold Dragon the heroes just managed to fend off the cult and prevent the decapitation of the leaders of the alliance.   With this bold attack by the cult the Alliance was solidified. Mortals and Metalic Dragons stood as one against the threat of the Cult of Dragons and the Tiamats impending arrival. Banding together they began their march north to the Well of Dragons.   Beset by betrayal from within their own forces the Heroes lost one of the Masks they had worked so hard to acquire. Thus the Cult of Dragons was able to haphazardly start the final ritual.   As the great army of the Alliance and the Cults forces clashed on the fields of the Well of Dragons. The Heroes lead the charge and managed to break through the lines and enter the vast complex under the dormant Volcano known now as the Well of Dragons. Beset on all sides the heroes pushed forward driving off the cult forces when they could, but concentrating on pushing forward in hopes of stopping the ritual before it completed.   Upon reaching the main chamber there were but precious seconds left before the ritual was completed. The head of the Cult of Dragons, Severin, stood before them hoping to slow their advance. The cultists completing the ritual hesitated for but a moment before continuing their chant. Severin, and the most powerful agents of the Cult delayed the heroes just long enough. As a pit formed, the Massive Claws and 5 heads of Tiamat rose out. While not fully summoned due to the incomplete ritual and missing component (the white dragon mask still held within the Heroes' grasp), Tiamat assaulted the heroes. Severin fell not soon after and was consumed by the Dragon Queen in her fury, as were every other cultist in the room, as they gladly gave their body and soul to help the Dragon Queen against the Heroes.   Through divine intervention and blasts of powerful magic the battle raged. The Leaders of the Lords alliance and what forces remained stood in wonder at the entryway. Unable to advance and help the heroes in this titanic struggle as a barrier around the ritual room had formed. The barier, while not fully understood by the mages of that time, was probably the first indication that the planes were starting to drift apart.   The Heroes battled Tiamat for what seemed like hours, the area around them drastically changing from a deep cavern within a volcano to the what could only be described as a small portion of the Dragonspawn Pits of Tiamat's Realm. Somehow the Heroes were able to beat back the Dragon Queen through the pit that had formed between this plane and hers. In one last massive struggle Tiamat cursed the Heroes. Condeming them to live through an age of misery as all the work they had done was set to be unraveled.   Tiamat then sundered the planar divide, effectively separating the Prime Material from all other Realms that had influenced her Rise, and Subsequent fall from the Prime Material. With this last curse and act Tiamat faded back to her own realm and a magical shockwave eminated from the Pit which closed suddenly. The Heroes realizing that something was drastically wrong sought to outrun it. The Shockwave was too fast, as a last stopgap Beer called upon his Diety Thor, who comanded Heimdall to open the Bifrost and save the Heroes. The Bifrost roared through the remnants of the barrier and surrounded all but Myradin who stood in confusion as his comrades left. Uttering to himself, and the Alliance who had yet again failed them, "Fuck this place and fuck you guys. I'm out", before disappearing in a gust of wind and leaves.   The shockwave then overtook where the Heroes once stood and spread out across the entirety of the Prime Material plane. Wherever it went, magic was destroyed, clerics were no longer able to commune with their dieties, nature was disconnected from Silvanus. The Gods, unable to react in time could only watch as Prime Material plane disconnected from the rest of the fabric of the Universe and winked out of existence. Unbenownst to everyone, even the gods. A small faint path to the Prime Material plane yet clung to existence. The one faction which hadn't helped in Tiamats Rise, nor Fall remained. That single thread, all that Connected the Giants to the All Father, and to the source of their magics. Rune Magic.   Even if none knew this what had truely happened, the Giants knew. They in their cowardice, and laziness had not fought against their greatest and Oldest enemy, and thus were spared her Wrath. Giantkind retreated to their lands, to the furthest depths, to their most forgotten strongholds, and were not seen again for a Hundred years.   Thus Begins the Age of the Sealed
