Gods

Born from nothing

During the Divine Eons, powerfull entities roamed the planet, in search of what? No one knows, although many speculate. These natural manifestations of the universes laws and forces where all unique. It is belived by most that these entities would be the ones to shape the planet to their image and forge servants, underlings to serve them in their diverses goals. Theses beings are today refered as Gods, although they themselves my not refer themselves to be Gods.

Birthed from nothing

The Gods where many, and while some would sometime band together, make alliances and such, many more would wage wars against one another during time immemorial. In order to serve, entertain and fight for them, the gods would each create servants, creatures made of flesh and bones, stone and ore, bark and wood, air and mist, all that could be found inert, but with the sole purpose to obey their creator.   These servants where called Scions, and each breed of Scions had a specific purpose and appearance. Most would look like slightly different version of their deities, with specific design for their task.

Shattered power

At some point, the Gods would make offsprings with their Scions, and some would infuse their children with a part of their essence, their Lifeblood making them a mortal extansion from their original creator. These beings where called Shards.   The Shards where the best servants a God could have, they shared the mind of their god, able to relay all they saw, said and did in but an instant. This shared consciousness allowed for more versatility from the Governing God, they could make alliances and waging war at the same time, at two different places at once.   Eventually, More and more Shards where created in order to always have more than the opposing factions. This essentially began to dilute the Lifeblood from the shared consciousness. Each Shards created meant a little of the power of all the existing Shards to be given in order to keep a state of equilibrium. It also meant that the more Shards there were, the lesser each Shards would be.   The problem came form the fact that a Shards' death meant that the power contained within it would be lost to The Great Cycle, meaining that the power would return to the earth and could lay dormant for eons before it would eventually woke again.

The Emergence

When the emergence happened, it was most likely to late to revert back the process. during a few millenias, Shards began to grow a conciousness that surpassed thoses of the Godly conglomerate, effecetively changing them into Godlings: mortals with a fraction of their God's power but a will of their own.   In time, all Shards would either die from the God's incessant wars or would turn into Godlings.   During the Battle of the Blue Dunes, all the remaining Shards where lost, leaving only the Godlings to be in charge of their own destines.   In order to see all of the major Gods and their following, click here

Summary

Gods created the Scions, servants without free will, to serve them.   From the mingling of a God and their respective Scions, some Gods created the Shards which where, with theire creator, a sort of hive mind of mortal being, imbued with theire deities powers.   As more and more Shards where created, the will of the Gods were not powerfull enough to keep all of them in check, which lead to some Shards turning into Godlings by growing a conscious of theire own.   In a final battle, all Shards left died and the Godlings where alone to live their life.

Historical Basis

Although the gods have existed, the withering of the Shards could come from thousands of reasons, mostly war yes, but it is believed by some that sitance from the group of Shards would also weaken the link and the influence of the The Lifeblood.   The Battle of the Blue Dunes is not sure to have happened.

Spread

it's common knowledge in most urban cities. Wildlands know of the myth but it may have minor estethic differences.

Variations & Mutation

Through a huge collections of documents and reports from Godlings, as well as visions, many of thoses informations are "in the truth". No one can know what really happened, but this tale has not changed much.   The Gods themselves have varied in form and meaning, but the overall lore didn't.

Cultural Reception

This lore is important for many people, but for different reasons.   For the Clergymen and the nobility, it is a way to prove theire Godlings' roots and in doing so, keeping power and controle.   For the Arcane masters, this tale is a proof that the Lifeblood is indeed in everyone and for everyone to control, since the Godlings mingled with one another.
Date of First Recording
The first recording are believed to be taken from the first Shards appearances, but the translatable sources only goes as far as the battle of the Blue Dunes.
