The Ominous Feral Star

Harbinger of bad omen

A star spotted somewhat five centuries ago, the Feral Star shines as a bright red dot upon the night sky at seemingly random intervals between several years, or sometimes decades. Where does the star go, or how does it manipulate its light? No-one knows, but there are plenty of traditions and soothsayings that relate to the ominous red star.

Summary

A curious event, first recorded by many races as an interesting anomaly soon took the wood elves by a shock. As age-long astronomics and students of the stars, wood elves saw this as an omen for horrible things to come. It was only after the fifth Feral Star that evil-doers and cruel-meaning bedlams began to sprout from many wood elven clans than many of the clan elders came together to discover that they all had been born under the Feral Star.
Local residents of Old Godivan woods have reported strange sightings and movement in the dark woods whenever the Feral Star is upon them. All are quick to lock their doors and to stay inside of their homes for as long as the Feral Star keeps watching them from the sky.
In a wide-spread superstition, it is believed that during the Feral Star, the drow are able to perform raids while in pure sunlight.

Historical Basis

To many other races, the Feral Star has plenty of different roles and prophecies and omens depending on culture. However, no other race takes it as seriously as the wood elves. After several tragedies occurred, done by the evil hands of those born under the Feral Star and spoken not outside of wood elf clans, some clans have undertaken the harshest and even barbaric approach of sacrificing anyone born under the light of the Feral Star. Others who cannot bear the guilt of child-slaying desert their child near Feylands, where strange creatures may find and either feast on them, or lead them to a different life somewhere else.
