The Great Dividing War

The beginning of the new era.

"The Banners of the free kingdoms were held high over the armies of the west, and the ringing of metal could be heard across all Veranide. Citrianna Lemonus, once a simple member of the Adventurer's guild, now the brave Captain Lemonus of the 55th legion, stood tall in the face of battle, her armor gleaming and her wavy blonde locks flowing in the breeze. The order was to defend Oortmire Hill to the east of Bomberton, a crucial front for the opposing forces. The legions of the free armies fought with honor and courage but on the eve of the 20th day of the 7th month, what remained of the free legions were cut down. The battle was sorrowfully lost and with a terrible cracking sound through the sky, as if it were tearing apart, the battlemages of the east wove into existence the cosmic spears of the forbidden magics and drove them deep down through the ground, shattering the very earth itself and dividing the land in two."

  • The Conflict

    Prelude

Taraxia had been at peace for nearly 2000 years since the birth of the Droguul Era. The lands were prosperous and the races lived in moderate harmony. But strangely, and unnoticeably at first, humans across the entire continent of Veranide had begun to change. Within their hearts bloomed greed, envy, hate and a lust for power. At first it was a subtle change but slowly rumors began to spread of humans who weren't acting as themselves. While initially it was dismissed, more serious rumors began to surface of stirrings within the magic community. Men and women were caught studying darker, forbidden magics. There were entire human towns packing up and moving east, sudden racial disputes in city streets had become frequent. Unbeknownst to the rest of the races, the humans had amassed their people in towns, cities and hidden forts in preparation of the coming war. And without warning and with overwhelming intensity, the gargantuan army of human soldiers and magic weavers arose in opposition to the lands of Veranide. They threatened open war against the continent, should they not be given all the lands in the east, the more exotic and desirable lands at the time. Cities and keeps were completely overthrown overnight in the east and the threat of the humans had to be taken very seriously. Inevitably, open war broke out as their request was refused. Many of the eastern races made an attempt to flee west, fearing the worst should they stay.

    Deployment

The humans had set up checkpoints and hidden military bases in a near perfect line through Veranide (North to South). War parties were cast through eastern cities to kill or capture any who would not stand with the humans. Meanwhile the resisting forces of Veranide were hurriedly placed in sparse strongholds across Veranide and ordered to defend the west and the capital as best they could. Many free civilians were forced to join the ranks of the western legions in order to defend their homes. Hundreds of thousands were slaughtered in the east and those who weren't, were enslaved.

    Battlefield

The heart of the war was fought along the border of the Vorea and Onseeni regions in the center of the continent. The largest conflict being at Oortmire Hill.

    Outcome

A huge portion of the population was killed and nature was thrown out of balance.
