Nótúath

"Write about a religious holiday celebrated in your world. Why and how is it celebrated?"   Nótúath (Life Day) is a festival held on the first day of Spring, to celebrate the season. It is generally held in honour of the prevailing nature deity, which is usually Akinara. Other deities that may be celebrated are Shain, Nótúhata and Heshknu.   Gift giving is a core tradition of this holiday. As are fertility rituals, which vary culturally but generally include bonfires, song and dance. Varying degrees of religious sacrifice are expected depending on which deity is being celebrated on cultural tradition.   On Nótúath, a large festival is typically held. Many performers dressed in strange outfits, evoking different spirits, deities or myths, parade the streets. They perform dances and tricks, and even spells.   It is considered a bad omen for someone to die on this day. Often, families may hide the death of a relative if it occurs on Nótúath. It is also considered bad luck if Nótúath occurs on Hazath so therefore, if the first day of spring falls upon a Hazath, it shall be held on the next day, Tarath.
