Kikaru

Kikaru is the concept of fate or destiny within Tarakom. There are three aspects of kikaru: birth, life and death.   The birth of a person is kikaru. Therefore, to kill a child before they are born is viewed as a very evil act, which will bring bad luck upon the perpetrator.   The death of a person is kikaru. Death is unavoidable, and though certain actions may change when or how a person dies, their death is a certainty. Some cultures believe that the death is entirely set in stone and cannot be changed, and therefore more easily excuse certain actions such as infanticide or homocide. Some cultures believe the hour of the death is set but not the method or vice versa, but in all cultures, the death is predetermined to some extent and cannot be avoided.   Within the life, there are moments which are kikaru. Some people, especially those who have a heavy impact on history, are considered to have their whole lives predetermined, but most people live freely between major, predetermined life events. Actions in life in relation to these major life events are what are considered to be capable of altering the death kikaru in some cultures.   Some examples on generalised different cultural views on kikaru"   In the Hundran Highlands, the Shkai Mountains and in far eastern Phystokovlik, kikaru is considered to be the result of alakana, the energy which runs through all living things. In these cultures, it is believed that people can shape or change their kikaru but that this will cause an imbalance in alakana. Natural disasters, plagues, famines and other such misfortunes are considered to be the result of an imbalance in alakana. Therefore, going against one's kikaru is strictly warned against.   In Syklov, Lokar, Shakar and far southern Fallrin, kikaru is also considered to be changeable. However, this is considered in a positive light. Through deep meditation and ritualistic trance, one can determine the future set before them and take steps to change it. It is even believed that death can be avoided all together if one reaches the ultimate state of enlightenment.   In Koliv, Hakaru, Raivira and the majority of Fallrin, kikaru is seen as unchangeable for various reasons. In Koliv and Hakaru it is believed that one's kikaru is both unknowable and unchangeable, though prophecy hinting towards one's kikaru do exist. In Fallrin, it is believed that though the future is knowable, no power could change it. They believe that every step taken to avoid a future will only result in progress toward it. In Raivira, a similar concept to alakana exists, but it is this balance of energy that prevents changes to kikaru. It is believed that any action taken that will ofset one's fate will be corrected by the universe so that one may be set back on the correct path.
