Kenirrik Death and Mourning

Execution

Funerals in Kenirr are a heavily localised culture and the form it takes depend often upon who the dead person were and where they died. What they however often share is a common tendency to cremating the dead but what is done with the ashes depends often based upon the natural geography of the land. In the rural farming communities the ash is often preserved in an urn for several years untill released from the urn into a hole in the backyard so as to return the ash to the land. While coastal fishing communities tend to row out on a boat (often a fishing boat) and then release it there.   While city life mostly follow the second tradition a growing practice has been the preservation of both the ash and urn in "Erenelt en hirrn" or house of rememberance. However this is a costly endeavor and as of such most ashes are still returned to the sea after few years of mourning.   The largest change in tradition however, comes from the Bermarr who almost all have individual traditions, such as spreading the ashes from a specific spot of a nearby mountain. Making a small shrine resembling an erenelt en hirrn in a nearby forest that is protected and used freely by all and carrying a bowl containing both greenery and ash that is lit before sending it all into a river, lake or well.   However it is executed, the Kenirrik sense of community and family is always vital and the day of burning is often a big event, burning sometimes one and sometimes multiple people and collecting many families. With city burnings often having specific places for it and almost always including multiple bodies.
