Blood and Spirit

Blood and Spirit is the simplified name for a common saying and philosophical concept vital to Kenirrik culture. Instead the formal term is
"The Blood is carried, the Spirit is earned."
This refers to how most Kenirrik people see a person, with the 'Blood' referencing to the blood of the coast or the Kenverr, something that you inherit by being born of a Kenirrik family. While the 'Spirit' refers to the proper mentality a Kenirrik person should have and is something you have to earn through actions and proper upbringing. The old election system used this very philosophy by saying that the spirit of the Kenverr goes to the Kenmarr and is earned through his election, but that the spirit can only be earned when the blood is true.   However the discussion of what exactly the term and which half is more important has and does change over time, while it is unknown how exactly the term was used before the "Dark Invasion" it is known that with the unification of Kenirr the spirit was valued very highly in comparison to later when Kenon took power and his descendant Onexx, threw away the latter part arguing that: "Through the actions of Kenon and his descendants, it is clear to see that the spirit is carried by the blood" ('A Hundred Years of Glory', T.Genhik). While nowadays, especially in the south a revival is happening as the election system of old is being rebirthed.   However this does not change that the term have always had discussion on what the parts mean, how much blood is needed for the blood to be carried? Is a child of a Kenirrik man and foreign woman Kenirrik? The opinion on how much blood is needed for the blood to be "Pure" changes a lot, during the century of the Onmarr dynasty and the large scale migration of Erks into Kenirr, the discussion was whether the old view of 3/4 (3 out of 4 grandparents being of fully Kenirrik blood) was enough, or, if Erkik blood was cursed and no man carrying Erkik blood could be said to be Kenirrik. This is only one of many examples of how Blood and Spirit has been discussed and argued over and have birthed a version of the phrase prefered by those following the cursed blood view.
"The pure Blood is carried, the true Spirit is earned."
