War

Heart's Corruption

(a.k.a. Mirzda, Jeonjan, Tau'a, or Boryoku)

Jeonjan is the darkness that lurks within the hearts of men. It is the force that drives the strong to crush the weak, that drives us to covet the bounty of our kin. We must resist this darkness, for there is nothing to be gained from war but for Jug-eum to grow fat on the breath of the fallen.
— Yeun-ji, Jangmunyo of Dosi-Senan
War was the second evil deity to be birthed from Moon’s sundering, and he represents her anger and thirst for power and vengeance. Since he returned from chasing Change and Magic across the universe, he has found endless pleasure in corrupting the hearts of mortals and feeding his constant companion, Death. The two are as a butcher and a vulture, and to believers of the Old Faith, every war that has ever occurred can be blamed on this berserk entity. It is he who whispers to the tyrant that he deserves to own everything he sees, and it is he who convinces otherwise peaceful people to leap for the throat of their once loving neighbor.   War has been an integral part of many tribes, regardless of whether he was the patron. Tribes that claim his patronage are often filled with fierce warriors that live short lives of violence and bloodshed. Death shaman will follow shamans of War, whether they are welcome or not, to collect the scraps of War’s rampage. Warriors in any tribe often pray to War before battle, for War can be an excellent source of courage should a warrior prove disciplined enough to keep the darkness in their heart in check.   War is often depicted as male or androgynous, standing defiant and clad in the battle garb of the tribe that created the depiction. Its shadow is dominated by the haunting visage of Death, but War pays it no heed, instead looking ahead with wild eyes and a fanged grin. War is almost always armed and armored, and its regalia matches the warrior’s mantle of the tribe around it. War wears a mask on the opposite side of its face as Death. It is similarly styled, though instead of skeletal War’s mask tends to look demonic in appearance, with a fanged grin to match its own.
