Magic

Boundless Potential

(a.k.a. Magia, Mabeo, To'gati, or Maho)

Mabeo can be a gift or a curse, depending on how one uses it. Those who do not fear it recognize its power, but respect the responsibility that comes with it. Magic used recklessly can destroy everything you hold dear.
— Yeun-ji, Jangmunyo of Dosi-Senan
Magic was one of the second set of forces to coalesce in the emptiness around Sun and Moon, alongside Change. The two became inseparable, naturally drawn to one another. Magic was able to use its great power to make real the potential of Change’s ideas, though this would prove to be catastrophic to their companions, especially Moon. Change sought to create a new celestial body like Sun and Moon, but Magic’s power was too great to control and not great enough to create something from nothing. The resultant blast of uncontained energy rent Moon’s body into pieces. Magic was forced to flee alongside Change for millennia when War and Death emerged from Moon’s battered body, only to return after War and Death were exhausted. Magic’s proximity to our world causes some beings to be infused with its essence, giving them the gift of boundless potential.   All magicians in the world are blessed by Magic’s touch, at least to those who follow the Old Faith. Magic is a contentious force among different tribes, for while some worship these individuals and hold them in high esteem, others see Magic’s touch as a curse that must be banished from their midst. Some tribes simply exile or kill mages born among them, while others will teach them rigorous discipline to keep them in check as they ascend to positions of power in the tribe. Some touched by Magic simply learn how to disguise themselves as shaman of other gods, avoiding the notice of those who would persecute them.   Magic is often depicted as male or androgynous, alongside Change for they are seen as two sides of the same coin. It reflects the appearance of a culture’s vision of magically gifted individuals, either wreathed in robes or wrapped in the dire trappings of an evil sorcerer. It is often of indeterminate age.

Divine Domains

Magic presides over all spellcasting and magical essence, but also over knowledge and the power that can come with it. Divination is also covered by his portfolio.   Its suggested cleric domains are the Arcana and Knowledge domains.
