Death

Constant Hunger

(a.k.a. Umijran, Jug-eum, Malu'i, or Shison)

Jug-eum reminds us of the fragility of Sanyeong’s blessing, but most of all it reminds us to be afraid. There is no shame in preserving your own life, for without the looming threat of Jug-eum, our ancestors would have perished long before they could sire us.
— Yeun-ji, Jangmunyo of Dosi-Senan
Death was one of two evil deities born from Moon’s sundering. It embodies Moon’s suffering in her worst moment, and it constantly hungers for the agony of others. It is drawn like a shark to the lost breath of mortals, closing in to leech their life away as they lay wounded and helpless. Even should a mortal never be wounded, Death looms over them like a shroud that grows ever heavier as they age, slowly leeching breath with each passing moment, reminding them that their lives are temporary.   Few tribes follow Death as their patron god, but those that do are feared by their neighbors for their fascination with the suffering of others, and their penchant for sacrifices to feed their gluttonous deity. They raid and pillage not simply to sustain themselves, but also to inflict pain on their kin and study the fickle blessing of Life as if it were a plaything. Some followers hire themselves out as assassins to more civilized folk, reveling in the sanctioned killing of others and the monetary gain in doing so while fearing not their own deaths. Others seek to understand negative energy, often turning to necromantic practices to better understand the nature of flesh and breath.   Death is often depicted as an entity of indeterminate gender and frighteningly alien appearance. Its gaunt form crouches behind that of War, constantly baying at its partner’s heels and lapping up the blood they leave behind. It gazes toward the viewer of its depictions with hollow eyes, one of which is behind a skeletal half-mask on its elongated and ghastly visage. Its lipless, gnashing teeth are bared menacingly.
