Tiagard

Ah, Tiagard! The country driven by arcane power and discovery. If you need something magical, as long as it's not divine, this is where you'll find it. Though, of course, it's not without it's probems.   Recently Tiagard has encountered a rouge underground government working to cut Tiagard's ties to the Leylines and severely hamper the country's economy and defense against the Wastelands.   Of course the deteriorating relationship with Elaria doesn't help either. It seems nearly everyday tensions between the two get even higher. A war may be on the horizon and it's unsure whether either of them can take the losses of a war and still fend off the Wastelands.   Extremely fast information networks using teleportation.   Created the projection tower and powers it with the slowly depleting Leylines.

Structure

The country is ruled by the Tempest Supreme. He has an order of wizards, sorcerers and several legendary adventurers to guide his decision. Each city besides the capitol is ruled by a Tempest Major who serves under the Tempest supreme in relative autonomy. The treasury of Tiagard is on an impenetrable island west of Wudsyt and is run and headed by the merchant's guild.

Culture

Tiagardians generally don't trust religion and thus don't trust anyone affiliated with a religion. Great arcane power is a sign of status in Tiagard.

Public Agenda

Tiagard seeks to tap into the power of the Leylines and use the power of the chip to further their magical power.

Assets

Being the magical trade center of the world, Tiagard has immense wealth not only in gold and silver but in equipment like weapons, armour, ships, and magical items.

History

Hundreds of years ago those cast out from Atril, due to their militaristic ineptitude, formed a small civilization in the North-Western reaches of Talrahn.  They built their towns around, what they assumed to be thermal vents and fissures, in order to keep warm in the cold northern winters.  It turns out, however, these thermal vents were veins of a previously undiscovered power, later named arcane power.  These vent were eventually referred to as Leylines and the people began to experiment with it's power.  Over time the people of the area became, for the time, very skilled in the art of arcane magic and the people grew stronger together, bonding over it.  Thus, Tiagard was created on the foundations of arcane discovery.   After generations of using, building upon and growing with arcane power, the use of divine power became nearly unheard of in Tiagard. It was seen as significantly less versatile and malleable as arcane power was. As time went on arcane power was seen as a sign of status. They decide who their next Tempest Supreme will be based on a test of arcane power, ingenuity in the use of said power, and intellect. It became valued to work for your magical prowess and praying to a god to receive your power became a taboo.   Not much changed in the nations mindset for another 100 years or so, that is, until The Crashing. Tiagardians became hateful towards the gods, seeing The Crashing as a cause of blatant misuse and abuse of their power. The standing Tempest Supreme was so outraged by the acts of the gods and their lackadaisical approach to the wellbeing of humanoidkind that he banned the practice of religion in Tiagard and forbid anyone from using divine magic.
