Race Relations

Skin color a concern of the past

Written by jbmcgraw

When survivors first arrived in the Tajus System, their population consisted of every race/ethnicity imaginable. After several generations however, the intermingling of genetic lines left only three ethnicities which were determined solely by their environment. Those living on the seas of Bea' have the darkest skin pigment due to their constant exposure to Tajus' rays. Those on Homeworld have a spanish type complexion, and those who remained in space are disturbingly pale due to the complete absence of natural light on board space craft.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

The strong protect the weak.

Common Dress code

Both men and women are expected to be properly dressed whenever in public, but the definition of proper dress varies by region, season, climate, and current trends.

Coming of Age Rites

By age 15 a boy or girl does not need parental permission to join the military. Orphans and children of the extremely poor are allowed to join at any age. The Mothers' Circle cares for those too young to care for themselves while the rest are assigned a mentor from the veteran ranks.

Common Taboos

Incest is punishable by death. It is shameful to ask for a handout because work is always made available to those in need.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

There is typically no set standard of beauty. In the space fairing societies it is more ideal to be short and thin because of the confined spaces, but planetside there are countless ideals of what makes a man or woman attractive depending on their environment.

Gender Ideals

The only job reserved one specific gender is the Mothers' Circle. Both males and females are allowed to pursue whatever profession they so choose.

Relationship Ideals

Marriage is restricted to just two people, though open relationships are commonplace.
