Inquisition
Founded more than a millennium ago, disbanded and reorganized several times, the Inquisition remain a powerful, behind-the-scenes agency, which acts to thwart evil and promote 'fairness' through brute force. Inquisition agents are often proficient in Investigation, enabling them to be adept at snooping and spying. They often seek aid from other Inquisitors and many different people, sympathetic bards and innkeepers, rangers, and the clergy of gods that are aligned with the Inquisitions' ideals.
The Inquisition was most recently re-founded by followers of the God of Control Ne'ero and originated in Ewhil. The organization consists primarily of humans, but any being is welcome to join the cause of uniting all under the control of order. The Inquisition is often working behind the scenes to eliminate those they deem unworthy or offensive to their beliefs.
The Inquisition has agents all over Taerim and is feared by peasantry for various reasons. Many are persecuted by the Inquisition for their faith. If an inquisitor is present the atmosphere shifts to one of tense alertness. They are supported by many of the official governments and tolerated nearly everywhere because they are rumored to be backed by the Ewhillian military.
The Inquisition is figuratively lead by a strangely cheerful woman. It is unclear whether it is the same woman or a mother to daughter dynasty, but the Inquisition has always been led by a woman of the exact same appearance and demeanor. For as long as anyone alive can remember and throughout recorded history. Some rumors among the peasantry are that she was granted immortality by Ne'ero himself for championing his cause. All in the Inquisition answer to her, and she answers only to her god. She offers her services to the royal family of Ewhil directly and some say that she is part of the royal family.
