Kevvox

Purpose / Function

Kevvox was built as a high-security facility to imprison Shiften who don't conform to the Enthar Empire's high restrictions on the use of their inherent ability. In reality, it was created for the Empire's residents, to soothe their fears about the nationwide Shiften purge. If the Empire claims the Shiften were breaking the law, a danger to society, and then throw them in prison to seal the deal, then at least people could look the other way and brush it off as "well they broke the law first". It's much easier to accept than when entire families are slaughtered in broad daylight, for example, simply for their God-given gifts.

Alterations

Kevvox was initially built using the blueprints of another high security prison for mages. However, given that the Shiften ability to change into animal forms is not an aether-based magic, the initial security measures were insufficient to contain and control those who were imprisoned in Kevvox. Shortly after it was opened, Kevvox was closed once more and redesigned to be almost entirely air-tight, and a team of mages was brought in as permanent employees to create and maintain barriers that would seal whatever gaps remain.

Architecture

The Shiften prison is not an attractive piece of architecture. The entrance is a large, circular metal trap door, that only allows passageway for one person at a time, and the rest of the complex is designed in a series of underground, metal pipes that act as tunnels. Kevvox was designed to be intentionally repetitive and confusing, with switch-backs and turns with no rhyme or reason, in order to confuse anyone travelling through the prison without permission. Should a Shiften manage to escape their solitary confinement, it is hoped they'll die before they find the exit.

Tourism

The location of Kevvox is a well-kept secret, although most believe it is far out in the frozen plains on the northern side of the Enthar Empire. Should anyone come across a trapdoor in the middle of an icy field, they'd likely never make it back to a town to tell anyone what they saw.
