Cybernetics

Cybernetics is the study and application of Automata technology with the biology of living creatures. Whether through surgery or simple medical procedures, cybernetic alterations are installed upon or within a creature to provide it some sort of benefit. These alterations can improve physicality, heighten mental capabilities, introduce internal or external mechanical functions, or simply fulfill cosmetic desires. The practice of cybernetics is known only within Mechanus, and those with cybernetic alterations are known as Cyborgs.

Cybernetic Types

Cybernetics have a wide range of capabilities. Some are minor enough that any detriments are reasonably safe. Other alterations, however, are significant enough to take a toll on the body and mind. Through extensive experimentation, cybernetic researchers have categorized these alterations into two categories, cyberware and augments. Each of these have a defined set of safety recommendations.

Cyberware

Cyberware are extensive alterations upon a body, often replacing entire organs or limbs. Surgery for cyberware is a dangerous process, and the body may fatally reject the new alteration. It is highly recommended that when installing cyberware, the user should immediately form a bond with the hardware as if attuning to a magical item.

Augments

Augments are minor alterations that affect the body less significantly than cyberware, such as cosmetic changes and organ enhancements. Nevertheless, a creature with too many augments can develop an extreme body dysmorphia disorder and suffer with mental deterioration. Therefore it is recommended that a user should limit themselves to a maximum of three install augmentations.

Cautions

Any cybernetic alteration can pose a risk to a creature's body and mind, but working with an accredited surgeon while following the recommendations should greatly diminish any danger. To reiterate, the installation of cybernetics can be a safe practice as long as all of these guidelines are maintained.

  • Cyberware and augments are installed by accredited surgeons.
  • A user is bonded with each of their installed cybernetics as if attuned to magic items.
  • A user has no more than 3 installed augments.
